It will be on display through May 3 and can be viewed during normal business hours. The upcoming AIA Utah Reflexion Magazine will feature a story on the history and current activities of DesignBuild in the School of Architecture at the U.

Yesterday we celebrated "20 years of DesignBuild in Utah 2004-2024" it was a fun discussion between professors and students where they share their experiences and talk about how much of an impact this program is for the students and what are the perspectives of the program for the future. BRANDON CLIFFORD- Matter Design Monday 3/18 School of Architecture - Room 127 Brandon Clifford is a time-traveler who develops creative approaches to the world's most pressing problems. He identifies contemporary blind-spots by mining ancient knowledge that holds resonance with topics of today. Brandon is the director and co- founder of Matter Design and an associate professor at MIT. Brandon received his Master of Architecture from Princeton University and his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Georgia Tech. In 2011-12 he was the Howard E. LeFevre '29 Emerging Practitioner Fellow at The Ohio State University. Brandon is a designer and researcher who has received recognition with prizes such as the American Academy in Rome Prize, a TED Fellowship, the SOM Prize, the Design Biennial Boston Award, and the Architectural League Prize for Young Architects & Designers. His most recent authored work 'The Cannibal's Cookbook' demonstrates his dedication to bringing ancient knowledge into contemporary practice with theatrical captivation. His work at Matter Design is focused on re-directing architectural research through spectacle and mysticism. Julian Rose + Garrett Ricciardi Monday 03/11 - 4:00pm Title: Land Art / Land Architecture Summary: From the founding of our studio in 2010, Formlessfinder's approach to architecture has been deeply informed by our roots in art practice, particularly the land art movement. This lecture explores what it means for architects to learn to look at the landscape and the environment like land artists, presenting a series of our recent projects in dialogue with a selection of important land artworks that have been touchstones for our practice. Key learning objects include: first, new approaches to site and large scale land use, focusing on the unique qualities intrinsic to a place, and in particular an emphasis on using the site "as found" rather than thinking of it as a blank canvas; second, a more holistic approach to design ecology, thinking of environmental performance and in broader terms that reach beyond cliches of sustainability; third, and expanded approach to materials, natural resource management, and infrastructure that embraces waste products and other overlooked or underutilized resources; fourth, understanding the transformative potential of dialogue between art and architecture to create new forms of cultural production, social interaction, and physical and spatial experience that might otherwise be outside of the boundaries of either field.
