Thanks to Utah voters' support of Amendment B, the University of Utah College of Mines and Earth Sciences will strengthen its mission of advancing earth sciences and mining engineering education in the state. The additional funding will strengthen our outreach initiatives, support crucial research in critical minerals and help prepare the next generation of professionals for Utah's vital extractive industries. Our students and faculty are engaged in essential research involving lithium, cobalt, and other rare earth elements - materials that are fundamental to modern technology and Utah's future. This support will help us continue providing world-class education and conducting meaningful research that serves our state's needs. We're grateful to be among several important institutions benefiting from this amendment, including Utah's public schools and other higher education programs across the state. Together, we can build an even stronger foundation for Utah's future in earth sciences and engineering.

I'm delighted to announce Denee Hayes as our newest University of Utah College of Science Senior Fellow. As a pioneering mining engineer and sustainability advocate, Denee brings unique expertise in bridging traditional mining practices with green energy solutions. Her leadership will be invaluable as we develop programs that address critical mineral needs while advancing environmental stewardship. Denee's two decades of industry experience, including roles at Rio Tinto and Pacificorp, combined with her innovative thinking about mining's role in our sustainable future, will help shape how we prepare the next generation of scientists and engineers. Dr. Rajive Ganguli, Professor of Mining Engineering at the University of Utah, recently taught his Intro to AI course with UteAnalytics in Lima, Peru. The course covered machine learning applications in the mining industry using no-code software for data cleaning, analysis, and predictive modeling.
