“If this change remains in place, clinical trials will shut down. Thousands of people will lose their jobs. Advances will cease. And people will die.” In a new op-ed published in USA Today, AAMC Chief Health Care Officer Jonathan Jaffery, MD, MS, MMM underscores the devastating impact of proposed NIH cuts to indirect costs on medical research and patient care. He recalls how NIH-funded research has revolutionized treatments and lead to dramatic improvements in survival rates and quality of life for patients, but notes the proposed cuts, should they be enacted, will have far-reaching consequences for medical research, patient care, and the health of communities across the country. The AAMC filed a lawsuit last week challenging the cuts to facilities and administrative reimbursements at the NIH, which resulted in a temporary nationwide restraining order. A hearing is scheduled for Feb. 21. https://ow.ly/M3s350V37o2 Read the full op-ed: https://ow.ly/55TH50V37o4
