In 1987, President Reagan designated March as a month to recognize and support individuals with developmental disabilities. This March, we are proud to celebrate the work of Yitong Jiang, a Special Education doctoral candidate and recipient of the division's Professional Development Award! Yitong used the award to attend specialized trainings on evidence-based self-regulation interventions and Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBIs) for young children - areas that are a key focus of her research and practice. With this funding, Yitong gained valuable experience and is now using her dissertation research to adapt these strategies for preschoolers with autism in school settings. Her advice to fellow graduate students? Prioritize work-life balance! Strength comes from quietness. Resting can bring renewed energy and focus ?? Reminder: The next round of Professional Development Award applications is due June 1 for opportunities in summer and fall 2025. https://lnkd.in/gRK5p7vX University of Oregon College of Education Image Description: Yitong stands in a natural area, with trees behind her. She has shoulder length, dark, wavy hair and is wearing red lipstick.

We’re proud to celebrate Xiaoyin Zhang, a doctoral student in Music Performance (Violin) who followed her passion across China, Canada, and now Eugene. Despite starting her academic journey in engineering and building a professional career in finance, music has always been at her core—she first picked up the violin at just five years old. Now, she’s fully embracing her true calling. As a Professional Development Award recipient, Xiaoyin attended the Aria International Summer Academy at Mount Holyoke College, where she trained with world-renowned violin professors. The experience sharpened her skills and boosted her confidence on stage, bringing her one step closer to her dream of a career in music. We can’t wait to see where Xiaoyin’s talent and dedication take her next! Image Description: Xiaoyin wears a silver sparkly gown and holds a violin. She has long, dark hair and is smiling. Her picture is inside a yellow circle on a yellow to green gradient background. Her name and "Professional Development Award Recipient" is in black inside a white bar.
