????? Showcasing UNI’s impact at the Iowa State Capitol! UNI Day at the Capitol is an opportunity to highlight the university’s meaningful contributions across Iowa and demonstrate to lawmakers how the state’s investment in UNI drives real results. More than 20 departments participated in this year’s event, sharing the incredible work happening on campus. “This is an opportunity for us to be in the capitol with students, faculty, and staff to talk about all the great things going on at UNI,” said UNI President Mark Nook. UNI continues to be a key driver of Iowa’s workforce, with 40% of graduates from neighboring states choosing to stay in Iowa to live and work. To further support workforce development, UNI is proposing in-state tuition for students from contiguous states, with a $3 million appropriation request for FY26 to help make this initiative a reality. ???? Students explore business & culture in the UAE! For Isabel Ernzen (‘26), studying abroad was always part of the plan at UNI. When she came across a winter break opportunity to visit the United Arab Emirates, she knew it was a unique chance to experience the Middle East firsthand—and she’s glad she took it! To prepare for the trip, students took a three-credit course covering the Dubai/Abu Dhabi business environment, including the UAE’s current state of affairs, business culture and historical context in the global economy. That’s how students were first introduced to each other, but they were able to form deeper connections during the trip. “It’s not a place I would necessarily pick to go to, but looking at the itineraries of the trips, I thought this would be the one I’d get the most out of,” she shared. From business visits to cultural experiences, this trip gave students unforgettable learning opportunities beyond the classroom. #StudyAbroad #GlobalBusiness #ExperientialLearning #UNIProud

The University of Northern Iowa’s Textbook Equity initiative has hit a record-breaking milestone—saving students nearly $900,000 in 2024 alone! That’s an 84% increase from last year and a total of $2.9 million saved since 2016. Through Open Educational Resources (OER), library-licensed content, and other no-cost materials, UNI is making education more affordable and accessible for all students. A huge shoutout to the faculty champions driving this impact!
