Go #BTS with our aquaculture researchers to see how the tasty, sustainable steelhead trout grown in UNH's innovative Aquafort get their start.
A day in the life as an #AquaFort researcher. Watch as rainbow trout are successfully transferred from their hatchery in Ossipee, NH to the ocean, where they are now referred to as 'steelhead trout'. AquaFort serves as an offshore aquaculture training platform and research site, and the system is referred to as Integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA). IMTA is a self-contained aquaculture system that allows multiple species to grow at the same time within a single floating structure including blue mussels, kelp, and dulse.
