Long before she was climbing the all-time leaderboard in the high jump at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Jenna Rogers was developing a passion for working with people with disabilities in her hometown of Rutherford, New Jersey. As she prepares to graduate with her bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders, Rogers has left her mark by turning that passion into an annual camp and research that will continue to make an impact at the university and in the Lincoln community for years to come. GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT Emma Conradi | Minnetonka, Minnesota | Communication sciences and disorders (education studies minor) What does graduating from Nebraska mean to you? Graduating from Nebraska means achieving a huge milestone in my educational career. It represents my dedication and perseverance throughout the past 4 years. Share any transformational moment(s) from Nebraska. How did it help shape who you are or what you will do going forward? Being an undergraduate research assistant with the UNL Learning Lab was the most transformative experience throughout my undergraduate career. Dr. Susan Loveall-Hague was an amazing mentor who helped me achieve incredible milestones as an undergraduate student, through presenting my UCARE project both nationally and internationally at research conferences. Being a part of her lab sparked my interest for research, and I hope to pursue my doctorate one day to be just like her! List 3-5 involvements on campus. President of the Student Council for Exceptional Children, Vice-President of the UNL National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, UCARE Student and Undergraduate Research Assistant for the UNL Learning Lab, Treasurer for the College of Education and Human Sciences Student Advisory Board Plans after graduation. After graduation, I will be staying at UNL to pursue my Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. I am an MPUP-SPADE scholar so my focus will be on children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. After graduation, I am most looking forward to embarking on my career in speech-language pathology, applying the expertise and experiences I've acquired at Nebraska to help individuals overcome communication challenges and improve their quality of life. The best thing about being a Husker is the sense of community and pride that comes with being part of a university with a rich tradition of academic excellence. It's the shared experiences, lifelong friendships, and unwavering support that make being a Husker truly special. I would like to thank my research professor, Dr. Susan Loveall-Hague, for being an incredible mentor throughout my undergraduate career. She is an incredible role-model who pushes me to pursue goals that are way outside of my comfort level. I am so excited to stay working with her for 2 more years during graduate school! We had a great time today sharing about some of the impactful work being done in our college with a group of fifth graders from Omaha Public Schools. Students learned about augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, fashion business planning, family and consumer sciences, and STEM learning using beebots. The University of Nebraska - Lincoln Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders is offering online American Sign Language (ASL) courses for undergraduate and graduate students or current teachers/practitioners who are working with students/clients who are deaf or hard of hearing.
