Such an amazing internship experience for UNL Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering student Samantha Ullman with Kiewit!
I just wrapped up my first summer internship with Kiewit. I had the amazing opportunity to work in the Northern California District, at The Rinconada Reliability Phases 3-6 project, located in Los Gatos, CA. As a Quality/Control intern, I experienced engineering in the office and the field. Simply put, it was a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and I grew so much personally and professionally. The best takeaway of the entire experience? Meeting so many talented and hardworking people throughout my summer. Through the internship, I had a hands-on learning experience that gave me the chance to see how an engineer solves problems, and how teams work together to achieve success. I want to give a big thank you to the Northern California District and everyone on the project for the experience. A special thank you goes to, Edgar Vaca, whose support and advice helped me make great strides in my internship early on. Another thank you to the Project Manager, Leo Estenson, and Project Engineer, Garret Barnes, for their guidance, too. I am so grateful to have learned so much this summer. I also had the chance to meet interns from various projects while in California. Everyone came from all over the country, and we took away so much from each other. The opportunity to work with people my age and learn from them and their projects was another privilege I had on this internship. All the traveling and group trips we did on weekends will be some of the memorable moments. As I finish up my first week of school, I can already tell that the skills and knowledge from this internship are going to take me far. I can’t wait to continue to grow and use all that I gained from this summer in my career. Thank you, Kiewit, for investing in me and the future of engineering!
