关于我们

At the Mizzou College of Health Sciences, we work every day to improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities. As the home of the most popular major on campus, we teach Mizzou students who care about health and are dedicated to serving others. In addition to learning in the classroom, our students spend more than 80,150 hours helping patients every year. Our faculty are driven to solve real-world problems. They lead the way by conducting research that has power and purpose. From expanding the use of technology in health care to improving mental health and learning in schools, we are discovering ways to make life better for everyone. Through clinics and community outreach programs, we provide vital services to members of our community and training for our students. We are proud to serve Missourians today while preparing the workforce of tomorrow.

  • For many students, scholarships are helpful, if not essential, to their access to a world-class education here at Mizzou. Donor generosity is transformative for many students, and may be the key to staying on track in their degree program and achieving their dreams. Let’s meet some of our scholarship recipients! (1) The generosity of donors helps Garrett Johnson and his sister, who is also a CHS student, reach their dreams within the health care field. “It means a lot to my mother and I to have any sort of financial assistance so more money can be diverted to my sister,” Garrett said. (2) Nazeema Begam Asad Khan plans to specialize in hospital operations, specifically surgical care, and she says that scholarships represent milestones throughout her education as well as the ongoing dedication of alumni to fostering student growth. (3) Mizzou Online student Ashley Harbison went back to school to earn her Master of Social Work, and though she may have more limited volunteer opportunities than in-person students, she’s working to give back in her community at a behavioral health agency as a substance use disorder counselor. (4) Ryan Chen’s parents are small-business owners who immigrated to the United States from China, and they work 13-hour days to provide for their family and offer education to their kids. Through scholarships, Ryan is able to focus more on school and his interests than his finances. (5) Emily Connally is a single mother to three children and works a full-time job alongside her commitments as a student. Receiving a scholarship helps her achieve a degree and eases her family’s financial burden, especially as she plans to continue her education after she completes her degree. (6) Kalista Sadler comes from a military family, and she wants to give back through military social work. “I knew I wanted to give back to the people who have helped my family and me,” she said. “Therefore, when I receive my degree, I want to work with the VA to give back and help veterans in need.” (7) Scholarships allow Shannon Gillespie, a senior respiratory therapy student, to focus on her studies and extracurricular goals, including raising $1,500 for pediatric cancer research with the Mizzou Morethan4 club. (8) “You are helping not just me, but my future patients as well,” says Addison Sircy. “With this scholarship, I can focus more on school to become the best social worker I can be.” If you’d like to empower College of Health Sciences students, consider giving to the scholarship fund of your choice this Mizzou Giving Day, from noon March 12 to noon March 13: https://loom.ly/ikxY4eo

  • Mizzou Social Work students and faculty attended the 2025 NASW-MO Legislative Education and Advocacy Day on Tuesday, March 4 in Jefferson City. Students met with representatives, attended a behavioral health rally, observed the floor and committee hearings — and some students even met with Governor Mike Kehoe.

  • Ever wondered the significance of animals and the environment in public health? Raquel Young (Tamesha Young), a master of public health student at Mizzou, collected public health professionals’ perspectives on the One Health approach, which is the idea that human, animal and environmental health are all interconnected. ???????? Whether it’s through academics, community engagement or amplification of important conversations, Raquel is always busy and dedicated to bettering health outcomes. For this project, she reached out to faculty and staff across campus and gathered diverse perspectives on One Health. By sparking curiosity and inspiring others to think critically, Raquel was able to bring together voices from various fields. She hopes to showcase how collaboration is essential to addressing complex public health challenges. Check out what Mizzou faculty had to say! ??? #OneHealth #PublicHealth #Interdisciplinary #Mizzou

  • Congratulations to Laura Morett, assistant professor in the Mizzou Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, on receiving a Fulbright award for the 2025-26 academic year. Laura will travel to Turkey in early 2026 to collaborate with experts at Ko? University and explore how gestures aid in learning tonal languages. The work could lead to broader partnerships between Mizzou and Ko? University, expanding our understanding of language learning across cultures. • For Dan and Marge Ball, staying active isn’t just about fitness; it’s about family. When they joined Stay Strong, Stay Healthy, a program developed by their son, Mizzou Department of Physical Therapy faculty member Steve Ball, they didn’t expect their grandson, Zach, to be their instructor. Now, three generations of the Ball family are united through movement and proving that health knows no age limit. “It’s been a rewarding experience — not just for them, but for me as well,” Zach said.
