UM Health-West's Dr. Muza-Moons was recently honored as this year’s medical honoree at the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation's Champions for a Cure event in Grand Rapids. Her speech celebrated the dedication of her UM Health-West team, inspired by Bo Schembechler’s famous mantra: “The Team! The Team! The Team!” The standing ovation she received highlighted her impact on the IBD community. Since 1967, the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation has invested over $500 million in advancing research, improving lives, and working toward cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. It’s an honor to support this important mission.

Congratulations to Catherine Smith from the UM Health-West Lowell Health Center, who has been recognized with the DAISY Award for compassionate nursing care. A patient nominated Catherine and said she provided a safe and supportive environment during a vulnerable time, going above and beyond to ensure the patient's identity was respected and concerns were thoroughly addressed. From using the patient’s preferred name and pronouns to offering guidance, Catherine made the patient feel seen, valued and supported.
