Professors Sunitha Nagrath and Nicholas A. Kotov have developed a new way of diagnosing lung cancer with a blood draw that is 10 times faster and 14 times more sensitive than earlier methods. The microchip captures exosomes—tiny packages released by cells—from blood plasma to identify signs of lung cancer. Read the full article: michiganche.info/3YB4VMu

What a great start to the Activator season with a successful team matching! We had six teams share their biotech ideas and get connected with interested business partners. It was amazing to see all of the innovative projects and the translation of research being done at the university to useable technology. Big thanks to the University of Michigan Biointerfaces Institute for sponsoring the event and providing the food and location. We'll see everyone again in January! Over the past 5 years, Nucleate’s Activator Program has supported 409+ venture teams, with our alumni raising over $370M to develop cutting-edge technologies. We provide life-science start ups with mentorship from industry leaders and the opportunity to connect with investors. The Activator program culminates in a final pitch showcase where teams present their product to a panel of judges.

Dr. Nicholas Kotov along with Dr. Luis M. Liz-Marzán from University of Vigo and Dr. Sara Bals from University of Antwerp have been awarded €9M ($10M) by the European Research Council to develop nanoparticles that recognize proteins. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gpCAHj3N
