Maryland 4-H held its annual Spring Professional Development and networking event this past week. Jill Bramble, CEO and President of the National 4-H Council was the keynote speaker. A proud Maryland 4-H alumna from Kent County, Jill was interviewed by former State Council member Brennan and current members Allison and Najma. They discussed topics relevant to today’s youth and the rich history of 4-H.' Dr. Jeff Howard, Program Leader for Maryland 4-H, led the gathering for strategic planning and development through listening sessions, presentations, and interactive data collection, with the theme of “Be Life Ready, Be Work Ready, Beyond Ready.” Dr. Jinhee Kim, Extension Director and Associate Dean, joined us to share information about our organization’s future direction. Livestock Skillathon is a contest involving the memorization of cow, goat, sheep & pig breeds, diseases, parasites, equipment used, feeds, external parts, internal body functions, wholesale & retail cuts of meat, and other facts. You also judge wool, hay & meat classes. Competing in the Livestock Skillathon at the county, state & national level has led me into good habits for memorization, critical thinking. It has helped me further my knowledge about livestock and agriculture.
