It has been quite a while since I last posted and shared what my career path journey in the United States Air Force has looked like! I recently promoted to Captain and have thoroughly enjoyed my time flying the C-130J Super Hercules, based out of Abilene, Texas. I have traveled to more places and countries in the past year alone than I had seen imaginable! Yes, this includes crossing the equator and arctic circle! My experience has been incredible and I continue to learn more about my airframe and about being an Officer, each day. I’m extremely excited about the opportunities ahead!

Had some fun modeling the Dune ornithopter ?? in my flight dynamics and control code, using UH-60 mass, inertia, and dimensions. Check out the closed-loop transition from hover to low-speed forward flight, with DI-based flight control laws. It'd be nice to compare performance, stability, and response characteristics to the UH-60 in the future. Science fiction meets aerospace engineering ????????? Warner Bros. Weeks like this remind us of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion work. We must continue to tackle the barriers and biases faced by women, especially those from historically marginalized communities and in traditionally male-dominated roles like engineering or leadership. Last week, I had the privilege of receiving the Elaine Johnson Coates Award at?A Celebration of Terps: Featuring the Maryland Awards. This recognition from the University of Maryland Alumni Association celebrates alumni who have made significant, lasting impacts on DEI, and I’m incredibly honored to be a part of this legacy. A huge thank you to the members of the Alumni Association for organizing such a wonderful event, including?Angela Dimopoulos. And a special thank you to?Aileen Hentz for taking the time to nominate, as well as to my mentors at UMD, including?Norman M. Wereley and?Bill Dorland. I also had the thrill of meeting NASA astronaut Jeanette Epps, PhD, who received the President’s Award at the event. Just one week earlier, Jeanette returned from 235 days on the International Space Station as part of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-8 mission. Her achievements in the aerospace industry are truly inspiring, and it was an honor to connect with her. Bonus news: I’m excited to be back on campus next week, connecting with students and supporting future engineering leaders. I’ll be joining events hosted by the UMD American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Women in Aeronautics and Astronautics (WIAA), and Women in Electrical and Computer Engineering (WECE). I'm looking forward to meeting with these student groups and continuing our shared mission to foster DEI in engineering!
