Dan Matheson, a faculty member from the sport and recreation management program in the Department of Health and Human Physiology, coached teams in the 18th annual Tulane International Baseball Arbitration Competition in January. The Department of Physics and Astronomy sought a student to build a Lego model of the TRACERS mission to give to the faculty and staff working on the project before its April launch. Congratulations to computer science faculty member Guanpeng Li for receiving a $310,077 grant from the National Science Foundation to improve the safety of autonomous vehicles. Congratulations to Daniel Khalastchi, director of the Magid Center for Writing, for receiving the Berru Poetry Award for his book "The Story of Your Obstinate Survival," during the Jewish Book Council's 74th National Jewish Book Awards. Kaveh Akbar, a faculty member in Department of English, debuted his novel "Martyr!" in January 2024. Since then, he has seen success through being a New York Times bestseller and a finalist for the National Book Award for fiction.
