The University of Dayton Investment Banking Academy will be recruiting first-year students this spring semester. For more information on recruitment or investment banking, DIBA will host Banking 101 Information Sessions on February 24th and 26th at 7 PM in Miriam Hall 213. These sessions will provide a brief overview of the investment banking industry and outline the steps to take to get involved with DIBA. Applications are now open and close on March 2nd at 5 PM. Over the course of the last few months, the Dayton Investment Banking Academy has had the privilege to host both Stout and Baird’s Investment Banking Groups once again. Both sessions gave new members opportunities to learn more about their upcoming recruitment cycle as well as other nuances within an Investment Banking career. In mid-December, The Academy hosted Stout’s Investment Banking Group for a virtual information session. This event gave our new members insights into the Middle Market Investment Banking Industry that Stout primarily focuses on. Members were able to learn more about topics covering a day in the life of an investment banker, what different industry groups are covered, the various student programs Stout has to offer, and internship timelines. Members were also given extensive time for Q&A covering topics from industry selection as an analyst, as well as internship opportunities and expectations. Thank you to Alumnus Reed Aleck for helping coordinate this event. The Academy would also like to thank Michael Edheimer for sharing his insights into Stout and the industry. Later in January, The Academy hosted Baird’s Investment Banking Group for an in-person information session. Our new members were able to receive an in-depth bank overview including services provided by Baird, as well as the growth of their firm. Topics of Baird’s unique culture, recruitment timelines, and summer analyst responsibilities/roles were also discussed with our new members. The presentation was then followed by an extensive Q&A covering the topics covered above as well as other industry insights and recruiting advice for our new members. Thank you to UD Alumni Isaac Grude and Julia DeVita for coordinating this event and making it possible. We are thankful for these teams taking the time to speak with Academy members and are looking forward to continuing these relationships in the future!

We are beyond excited to share that our Dayton Investment Banking Academy team took home first place at the 2025 ACG Cup?, hosted by ACG Cleveland! Competing against top universities, we tackled complex financial challenges in mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, and private equity, putting our skills to the test in front of industry professionals. The experience didn’t stop there—we had the chance to network with industry leaders at the awards reception at Cleveland Marriott Downtown at Key Tower, opening doors for future opportunities in finance. A huge thank you to ACG Cleveland for organizing this incredible event and giving students like us a platform to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world finance. On Wednesday, The University of Dayton Investment Banking Academy joined the ArkMalibu team in their Cincinnati office to present our latest new member sell-side case studies. We want to thank Joshua Newman, Joseph S., Zack Niebolt, Josh DeVlieger, Luke Knopf, and Andrew Bitner for their time and efforts in supporting this year’s new member class. Throughout the case study process, the ArkMalibu team conducted a thorough review and shared valuable insights with new members as they finalized their pitch decks and valuation analyses. The team then evaluated and analyzed the presentations, offering constructive feedback. ArkMalibu remains a vital contributor to The Academy's success and growth by providing exceptional expertise in investment banking. The Dayton Investment Banking Academy's annual case study is a semester-long project that marks the culmination of our 14-week education program. In this project, teams of new members assume the role of investment banks competing for a sell-side mandate. They demonstrate how they would take an assigned target company to market by outlining their investment bank’s qualifications, developing a preliminary positioning strategy, and constructing a valuation "football field" that includes a fully integrated three-statement model (DCF), public comparables, precedent transactions, the landscape of potential buyers, and process considerations. During November, the University of Dayton Investment Banking Academy had the honor of hosting UD alumni Joe Gannon and John Coffey for guest speaking events. These events allowed our members to learn more about the industry directly from those with years of experience, and each had Q&A interaction throughout each presentation to create a more interactive experience. Joe Gannon, UD ’21, is an Investment Banking Associate at Ziegler. Joe has been with Ziegler since 2021 and has been a part of many deals during his time there. Ziegler is a privately held investment bank, capital markets, and proprietary investments firm. They specialize in healthcare, senior living, and education sectors, as well as general municipal and structured finance. They primarily represent Lower Middle Market companies through M&A advisory. Joe met with our organization’s members virtually and covered a variety of topics including his pathway into investment banking, the lower middle market landscape, as well as the many sublevels within the healthcare sector. Joe also offered an extensive Q&A session for our members covering questions ranging from investing banking recruiting to networking strategies for recruiting. John Coffey, UD ’22, is an Investment Banking Associate at J.P. Morgan. He joined their team in June of 2022 and has spent the majority of his time working on industrial M&A transactions. J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. is a leading global financial services firm providing investment banking, asset management, commercial banking, and wealth management services. During our discussion, John shared his experience recruiting for investment banking and offered helpful tips to our underclassmen preparing to do the same. Following this, we had a robust Q&A session where students were able to learn more about the various responsibilities of an associate, the tasks of a bulge bracket bank versus a middle market bank, and how to best prepare in our time here at school.?
