UEDA's three pillars are Talent, Innovation, and Place, and the UEDA Washington Conference featured lightning presentations and roundtable discussions on all three to discuss best practices and emerging opportunities in economic development. This afternoon, the Innovation Session featured engaging conversations and presentations from Dr. Darlene Deberry from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Stephen Gent from South Dakota State University, and Nicole Gislason from the University of West Florida on succession planning, engagements with industry, and additive manufacturing. Attendees discussed emerging technologies that others are leveraging and ways to sustain current initiatives moving forward.?

Day 2 of the UEDA Washington Conference started out with a Data Tools Roundtable, featuring presentations from Iain Hyde at Argonne National Laboratory and Annie C. and Indraneel K. from Purdue University's Center for Regional Development. Attendees learned about Argonne's NERDE tool, the Economic Development Capacity Index, and Purdue's project updating the definitions of industry clusters. These tools can help users learn more about their regions to assist with economic and community development initiatives.

Focusing on National Association of Development Organizations (NADO)'s Economic Development District Community of Practice (EDD CoP), Brett Schwartz, NADO, Associate Director and Kim K. Denton, CEcD of the UT Center for Industrial Services, facilitated a discussion on partnerships between universities and EDDs. Schwartz shared about NADO's work in the Community of Practice, while Denton provided an example of where these relationships are successful in Tennessee. EDDs are expert convenors and provide local expertise, making them beneficial partners to universities when working on regional and local economic and community development work. #economicdevelopment
