Last week marked the completion of the System Upgrade for Reliable Energy (SURE) project, a major 14-year natural gas distribution system modernization effort in the Portland and Westbrook areas that has created a safer and more reliable system to meet the growing energy demands of southern Maine. This monumental effort, and one of our largest and most aggressive capital improvement initiatives, retires a cast iron piping system that had faithfully supplied the city of Portland with natural gas for over 125 years. The work also included vital upgrades to 8,862 service lines and 16,945 meters.

In NH, there are currently over 600 public electric vehicle (EV) charging ports with more anticipated in the next five years. In MA, there are over 7,500 charging ports! There are multiple resources to locate EV charging stations while on the go. #electricvehicle #ev #driveelectric

We are focusing on a brighter, greener future with our 2025-2027 Massachusetts Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization Plan. The proposed plan, filed with the DPU, aims to help Massachusetts reach energy efficiency goals, lower carbon footprints, and save energy. What is New Hampshire? This was the question framing the Class of 2025's first session day, sponsored by Unitil. Gathering yesterday in Bethlehem at The Rocks, the northern headquarters of Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, the Class of 2025, sponsored by SilverTech, Inc., had the following goals for the day: ● To set the stage for the year with an overview of New Hampshire: our history, culture, traditions, demographics, and trends; ● To identify some of the most urgent issues/challenges facing our state; ● To begin to frame questions we wish to consider in subsequent program days; and ● To begin to identify opportunities for civic engagement. A big thank you to all who shared with our associates of their time, talent, expertise, and experience yesterday: New Hampshire historian Dr. Stuart Wallace; Carrie Portrie PhD of UNH Carsey School of Public Policy and NH Listens; Dr. Nicole A. Line crews from Unitil are heading to Georgia to assist with power restoration efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which left millions without electricity and devastated parts of the southeastern United States after making landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region last week. Unitil’s fleet of vehicles, which will include a total of 12 line workers from the company’s New Hampshire and Massachusetts regions, left for Saco, Ga., on Monday afternoon and will provide mutual aid to Georgia Power, which has reported extensive tree damage, widespread flooding and many road closures in the wake of the hurricane.

At a recent ceremony, we dedicated one of our operational facilities in memory of a former employee to pay tribute to the lasting legacy he left behind. John Davis II was a senior land agent at Unitil for several years and was praised for his enthusiasm and passion for the job. Following his death in 2020, Unitil explored ways to memorialize Davis and honor his work, ultimately naming the facility the John A. Davis II Station. Dozens of his former colleagues, friends, family members, and neighbors who live near the site of Unitil’s newly upgraded natural gas regulating facility on Hawthorn Road in Dover gathered to celebrate his life and formally dedicate the building.
