Today is National Philanthropy Day, a day to celebrate the ways that we all give back to our community, whether that is through fundraising, volunteering, making a donation or simply sharing about the work nonprofits are doing for our neighbors. We want to say thank you to all our of partners that invest in our work supporting more than 130 nonprofits – we could not do this work without you. We also want to thank our nonprofit partners doing amazing work in our community! Thank you for your commitment to the greater good in greater Charlotte. ??

Back in September, some of our Tocqueville Society members raised over $5,000 for Arts for All by attending a Blumenthal performance of the Lion King. Those funds raised provided scholarships to youth from two of our nonprofit partners, Academy of Goal Achievers and Exposure Project, to see the show & Juliet at the Blumenthal Arts last month. They had a great time, and we can't thank our Tocqueville Society members enough for making that happen! ??

Enjoyed the conversation with Drew Reynolds and Roger Suclupe. Thank for having me on the Common Good Data Podcast!
Economic mobility is a complex issue with no single solution. No organization can tackle it alone. That’s where a collective impact approach can help. It brings together organizations from various sectors to work toward a common goal, like improving economic mobility. These organizations complement each other's efforts instead of duplicating them. They share knowledge and build on each other's strengths. Khalil Salim, the Director of Research and Evaluation at United Way of Greater Charlotte, shares his experience and thoughts on how collective impact is making a difference in Charlotte. Hispanic Heritage Month came to a close yesterday, but last month we kicked it off at United Way with a lunch celebration. A few of our staff members educated the team on the rich culture, history and contributions of the Hispanic community. We also had the privilege of watching Cumbiamberas perform Cumbia, which is considered to be Colombia's national dance. Let’s continue to honor and uplift these voices, not just this month, but every day. ?Juntos somos más fuertes! ??

The Ada Jenkins Center has been serving North Mecklenburg in the Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville communities for more than 25 years now, helping create lasting solutions for economic mobility for residents. As a United Neighborhoods Community Quarterback, this organization has been able to bring in nonprofit partners to assist with critical home repairs to stave off gentrification, help their neighbors avoid being displaced so they can age in place and maintain home ownership for generations to come.
