  • We believe maternal health transcends the traditional 40-week marker for pregnancy. The #100WeeksProject takes into account a mother’s entire pregnancy journey, which includes the critical postpartum period (up to one year after pregnancy). Our ?????????????? ?????? captures the lived experiences, emotions, bright spots, and critical points of failure across the 100-week journey for Black women in the US, inclusive of the highs, lows, stressors, challenges, and supports across the entire journey: preconception, pregnancy, labor & delivery, postpartum, child wellness and interconception. To fix the problem, we need to understand what’s actually happening across a woman’s entire journey. Check out our ?????????????? ??????, and our other postpartum resources in the comments ?? #PostpartumCare #100Weeks #MaternalHealth

  • We have a NEW #PostpartumCare Resource ?? We just launched an interactive map tool that exposes the dire gaps in postpartum care across the country. The data reveals an alarming reality: The South faces the worst postpartum outcomes, with higher rates of postpartum depression, fetal mortality, and fewer perinatal health workers compared to other regions. Postpartum care must be a priority in every state, for every family. Key takeaways from our findings: ?? Postpartum mental health support is lacking: Screenings for postpartum depression correlate with better outcomes, yet they remain inconsistent across states. ?? Disparities in access to perinatal health workers: Women in the South & Midwest are far more likely to live in maternity care deserts. ?? Coverage of postpartum services is uneven: Medicaid expansion leads to better maternal health coverage, yet 7 out of 10 non-expansion states are in the South. ?? Late-stage pregnancy loss rates vary widely: Southern states are almost 3x more likely to have above-average fetal mortality rates. "Seeing maternal health care as just the 40 weeks of pregnancy is a dangerous mistake," says Natalie Davis, our CEO & Co-Founder. "For far too long, the postpartum period – when most maternal deaths occur – has been overlooked. These maps should be a message to every policymaker and employer in every state – if we want to improve the health of our nation's families, we need to better care for women after they are no longer pregnant.” With federal maternal health data collection (PRAMS) at risk, and along with it our ability to track how we are – or are not improving – as it relates to maternal health, now is the time to act. Policymakers and employers must step up to expand postpartum coverage, improve mental health screenings, and ensure access to critical benefits like doulas and lactation consultants. • We submitted our amicus brief in ?????????????? ??. ?????????????????? ???????????????????? ??????.! ?? United States of Care, alongside 47 partner organizations, filed an amicus brief in Kennedy v. Braidwood, urging the Supreme Court to uphold free preventive health care services that nearly 151 million people (including 37 million children) rely on. For over a decade, people have had access to lifesaving services like cancer screenings, HIV prevention, and mental health screenings at no cost. This case threatens to strip away those protections, forcing people to choose between care and basic necessities. ??“People want to be healthy, and they want health care they can afford and rely on [...] The Supreme Court has the obligation to hand down a ruling that affirms the preventive services mandate and delivers a sigh of relief for the almost 151 million people who have anxiously held their breath as this case moves through the courts” – Natalie Davis, CEO & Co-Founder, United States of Care Our message is clear: we must protect preventive care and ensure that everyone can access the care they need to stay healthy. • Happening today during #HCValueWeek! ? At 9:45 AM ET, United States of Care CEO Natalie Davis will moderate a crucial discussion on what people truly want from the health care system. Hosted by Accountable for Health, in conjunction with Health Care Value Week, the panel is called, “???????? ???????????? ???????? ???????? ?????? ???????????? ???????? ???????????????? ????????????.” We know people want affordable, high-quality, and coordinated care. But too often, they face barriers, inefficiencies, and high costs. This session will explore: ? What’s working in today’s health care system ? Where people still struggle to get the care they need ? How accountable, whole-person care can evolve to deliver patient-first, high-quality, and more affordable care ?? Learn more about Health Care Value Week here: https://lnkd.in/eczK4aXc ??Take a look at our Patient-First Care Policy Principles: https://lnkd.in/gkaNe7jU #PatientFirstCare

  • Health Care Value Week kicks off today! ?? For the fourth year in a row, Health Care Value Week (Feb. 24–28) brings together thought leaders from the public and private sectors to advance a health care system that values people over profits. Shifting from a fee-for-service model to patient-first care prioritizes whole-person health and better outcomes over sheer volume of visits. We know that people see serious challenges in our current health care system: ?? Too fragmented: care is uncoordinated, making it harder for people to get the support they need. ??? Too inefficient: more time is spent waiting than actually receiving care. ?? Too dependent on prescriptions: prescription drugs are seen as the easiest path to address health challenges ?? Too inequitable: those with money have an easier time getting timely care. ?? Learn more about Health Care Value Week here: https://lnkd.in/eczK4aXc #HCValueWeek #PatientFirstCare

Mapping the human experience to improve the health care system. Entrepreneur | Listener | Advocate | CEO | Friend, wife, mom, woman

In my first Forbes article, I am diving in to how public sentiment is changing and we need to be out there listening. I’ve heard from people time and again that they just want to be healthy, but our healthcare system doesn't feel like it's out to help them—it’s an obstacle to overcome. Seeing the public’s reaction to healthcare unfold over the last few years feels a bit predictable - especially for us at United States of Care as we have engaged 25,000+ people. The rise of the wellness industry, a growing but unfounded skepticism toward?vaccines, the general suspicion and rage toward our healthcare institutions—these tell us a similar but unfortunate story that we hear in United States of Care’s work all the time.?And with the tragic death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, people’s sentiments about healthcare in this country are even more important to consider. People are stuck between their healthcare needs and our healthcare system. People everywhere are?struggling to afford healthcare, they’re being shuffled between different providers who aren’t talking to each other, and they’re left with unexplained charges and a general feeling that this system isn’t meant to make them healthy but to make others wealthy. All of us, from policymakers to advocates and industry leaders, should take part in hearing what people are saying and delivering the change they need.
