United Way mobilizes communities to action so all can thrive.

关于我们

United Way of Treasure Valley is changing the odds for members of our community through health, education and financial independence. Through careful research, United Way identifies the biggest local needs. To meet those needs, United Way brings together people and organizations with the passion, expertise and resources necessary to improve our community. We strive to build change that lasts for generations. --- We help children and youth achieve their potential through education. --- We improve people’s health through preventive action and access to care. --- We promote financial independence. Really, it’s about preventing problems before they begin. It takes everyone working together to build something better. Each of us can give, advocate or volunteer. We all can Live United.

“If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.” ?? Shirley Chisholm was the first Black woman elected to Congress in 1968, and she was a force unto herself.?She was a ‘first and only’ when she raised her hand and took the oath of office for Congress.?In 1972 when she launched her campaign for the Presidency, she felt she had a right to lend her voice to discussions that impacted the lives of all Americans.?? ? As a Black woman, I have been the ‘first and only’ in many instances throughout my career. I know the weight of responsibility and opportunity inherent to the moment. I know that representation matters not just for African Americans but for everyone seeking life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.?When we create space for all people, we expand our understanding of one another and barriers begin to come down.? ? As I celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth and the contributions of Shirley Chisholm, I am reminded that we are all change agents, and the world is waiting for each of us to pull up our chair and roll up our sleeves.?So go forth and be the transformational leader you were created to be.?And remember that 'no' is just a word; not the end of the world.

  • We’re thrilled to welcome Carlyn Blake to our team as Director of Development & Community Engagement! Carlyn brings a tenacity for fundraising, and a penchant for fun in general. When she’s not chasing whitewater rapids or planning her TreeFort itinerary, you might find Carlyn enjoying some of the many great things Idaho has to offer (local theater, spectacular hiking, beer and wine tasting, and foodie festivals, just to name a few). When you see Carlyn out and about, either at Hyde Park Street Fair or speaking at your United Way Workplace Campaign, tell her hi!

  • Black history is American history. This Black History Month, we honor the rich legacy of Black Idahoans in the our state. From the founding of St. Paul Baptist Church in 1909, which now houses the Idaho Black History Museum, to trailblazers like Dr. Mamie Oliver, Boise State University's first Black professor, and Cherie Buckner-Webb, Idaho's first Black state legislator, their contributions have profoundly shaped our community. Let's celebrate and continue to learn from this vibrant history. #BlackHistoryMonth #TreasureValley #IdahoBlackHistory

CEO at the Idaho Nonprofit Center

This week has been a tough week for #nonprofits as our sector dealt with an unprecedented freeze on federal funding. We talk a lot about how 'Idaho Runs on Nonprofits' and I don't think everyday citizens are aware of how much nonprofits get done for our communities with federal funds: -?? Feeding homebound seniors in rural communities - ??? Sheltering and housing our lower-income neighbors - ?? Providing direct primary care to underinsured families - ???? Sheltering and rehousing victims of domestic violence - ?? Refugee resettlement and support to new American citizens - ?? ??? Grants for arts and cultural opportunities in our local theaters and museums so that help us create lifelong family memories ....and so much more... If you're struggling with the question: What can I do, here's a couple of suggestions: 1) ?? Go to the nonprofits' websites you care most about and hit that donate button. Unrestricted funding will be vital and every little bit helps. 2) ??? If you're on a nonprofit board or leading a nonprofit, let the 119th Congress know that nonprofits are essential to our communities' functioning and sign on to our partners at the National Council of Nonprofits' sign on letter: https://lnkd.in/gzNG9Njm
