关于我们

United Way of Tarrant County is a local nonprofit organization that advances the common good in Tarrant County. We believe everyone has a right to a good life and a responsibility to improve the community. To LIVE UNITED is to advance the common good for all of us. We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable and when people have good health. We don't just address the symptoms of a problem. We go deeper to get at the underlying causes. And we do it with an unwavering commitment to efficiency and accountability. United Way of Tarrant County has more than 90 years of experience investing money, expertise and other resources to improve lives and communities. We establish creative collaborations of diverse individuals and organizations because together, we can accomplish more than any single group can accomplish on its own. The result is measurable improvements that ripple out to benefit the entire community.

  • Tax season is upon us, and that means Tellamecus Forsythe is very busy! The Opelousas, Louisiana, native began her journey at UWTC in 2024 as a site coordinator and is now the program coordinator for UWTC’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. VITA provides free tax preparation to families and individuals with household incomes of $67,000 or less. In this role, Tellamecus—or Tell for short—spearheads outreach for both VITA clients and volunteers. This includes talking to potential clients about the benefits of VITA and explaining the rewards of serving the community through volunteering. Tell’s passion for service led her to seek opportunities in the nonprofit sector. She was ecstatic when an opportunity at UWTC became available and jumped at the chance. Not only does her current role meet her need to serve but it also fulfills another passion of hers—talking! She loves giving presentations and meeting new people, and she is excited to share information about VITA with the community in hopes of making a positive impact. One of Tell’s favorite VITA stories to tell—pun intended—is about helping a couple with their taxes who turned out to be the brother and sister-in-law of her neighbor. This connection sparked a friendship and Tell not only became their go-to for tax help but also an honorary "auntie" to the family. When Tell isn’t connecting with people in the community or hanging out at home, you can find her prioritizing her wellness at the gym. Interested in volunteering or need tax help? Benefits Counselor for the Tarrant County Area Agency on Aging

My toddler is currently obsessed with growing up. We recently had a long conversation going over all the things she hopes to do one day. Out of all her cute answers, two that stuck out to me were "do work on the computer" and "have four babies". I love that she sees, firsthand, she can do both while feeling fulfilled and happy! And if her goals do stay the same when she's older, I hope she finds an amazing employer like mine ??

  • For VITA volunteers, preparing taxes is about more than crunching numbers. It’s about helping people and ensuring families receive every dollar they’re owed. Javier Huerta knows this firsthand. After volunteering with United Way of Tarrant County’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program last year, he returned because of his commitment to serving the community. Through VITA, Javier helps households earning $67,000 or less file their taxes for free, saving families money and connecting them to critical resources. His dedication shows the difference we can make when we step up to serve others. Learn how you can make an impact through VITA at unitedwaytarrant.org/vita. #VITA #GetUnited #UWTarrant

  • What were you doing in 1985? Forty years ago today, Monita Butler embarked on a journey with United Way of Tarrant County (UWTC) that would change countless lives, including her own. Starting in data entry for the finance department, Monita has grown with the organization, becoming an integral part of the community investment team as a senior administrative support specialist. As a young mother, she found something rare at UWTC: a workplace that supported both her family and professional growth. She valued the flexibility and encouragement to balance work and home—something uncommon at the time. Looking back, Monita shares that people have always been at the heart of her experience. From employee outings and picnics to meaningful volunteer projects, the connections she’s built have left a lasting impact. “I love United Way of Tarrant County because of the people I get to work with,” she says.
