This month marks the start of the United Way of Story County visioning and strategic planning process, a key focus of my first year at the helm of our incredible community-led organization. United Way of Story County leaders have been joining forces to shape our future. Our board members, Allocations and ASSET Committee members, donors, and dedicated staff have brought their diverse expertise and deep community knowledge to our strategic visioning process. Looking around our initial planning sessions, I'm humbled by the collective wisdom, passionate commitment, and innovative thinking our Story County community leaders bring to our mission. Each person represents unique life and professional experiences and a shared dedication to creating lasting change in Story County. The energy and insights shared throughout this journey fill me with optimism about what we can achieve together. I’m excited for what this process will bring to the service we provide to and alongside our friends and neighbors in 2025 and beyond. Thank you Story County community for your support! Very well deserved honor for our former board member Markus Flynn!
Last week, I had the incredible honor of being recognized by my alma mater, Iowa State, as one of two 2024 Outstanding Young Alumni. I never imagined this would be part of my journey, and I’m deeply humbled by the recognition. When I started at Iowa State, there were over 36,000 students, and by my rough calculations, nearly 150,000 people were eligible for this honor. I know this achievement is not mine alone, it’s a reflection of the many people who have poured into me, supported me, and walked alongside me along the way. Special thank you to Angie Brellenthin for the nomination, and to Anthony Lando, Amy Oliver, and Mikisha Nation for writing my recommendation. To everyone who’s been part of my journey, thank you. I’m hopeful for what’s to come, and I’m committed to paying it forward.

We need to give a well deserved shoutout to Iowa State University Homecoming and the ISU Greek Community for a very impressive Homecoming Food Drive last week! A total of 11,402 pounds of food items and 6,392 lbs of hygiene items were donated to local pantries at a time when every donation is very much needed. Bring your pile of documents to the session and we'll help you get organized and prepared for taxes next spring. Registrations are due by ???????????????? ?? by emailing Sarah at [email protected]. Event will be at Gateway Hotel beginning with dinner at 5:30, instruction at 6pm, and hands-on workgroups at 6:30 until you finish.

Welcome aboard to our new Finance Director, Cindy! ?? Cindy joins us all the way from Sioux City, Iowa, coming to the land of the Cyclones ???where both of her children attended school. Fun fact - Cindy previously trained and got her Zumba instructor license in Ames and is now back here working and living and enjoying all that Ames and Story County have to offer. We're thrilled to have her here with her years of experience in accounting and finance management.
