Although Read Across America Week has ended, our mission to support and empower K-3rd grade students in literacy is ongoing—ensuring every child can read at grade level! Recent data reveals a concerning reality, with just 14% of students in certain Passaic County districts reading at 3rd grade level. But thanks to dedicated partners like L3Harris Technologies, we’re building a brighter future for these students. Their generous donation made it possible for employees to assemble literacy kits, giving students the tools to grow their own home libraries with a brand-new book—If You Give a Mouse a Cookie—along with valuable resources to strengthen their literacy skills. Together, we’re creating a circle of hope that empowers Passaic County children to thrive in reading and beyond!

At United way of Passaic County, we are dedicated to helping individuals and families achieve financial stability and build brighter futures. Our VITA program, currently running, certifies volunteers with the IRS to file taxes for free and ensure residents receive all eligible credits. This helps residents receive refund income that can be used for necessary living expenses. In 2024 alone, we secured 1.4 million in total refunds for Passaic County residents.
