During Day of Caring, a volunteer team of 5-15 people is partnered with a nonprofit agency to complete a project that the organization may not have the manpower or financial resources to hire outside help to complete. That’s where volunteers come in; United Way will recruit, organize, and prepare volunteers at no expense to the nonprofits. We hope to see you there! ??

  • On February 15th, General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) employees gave up their Saturday to give back to some of our youngest students at Bossier Parish Schools' Meadowview Elementary! ?? After completing a Born Learning Trail for the elementary school last year, GDIT returned to partner with us for a new initiative to benefit the students as they prepare for state testing. Employees got their hands dirty by building and creating literacy walls in the hallways of the school, featuring engaging displays that will reinforce reading skills for the students and help foster a love for learning. In addition to the literacy walls, employees packed snack bags to provide students with a boost of energy on their testing days. They also got creative and crafted motivational posters filled with encouraging messages to inspire and uplift the students as they tackle this important milestone. Thank you so much, GDIT, for your commitment to early childhood literacy and for empowering our youngest students with the tools needed for a successful testing season! You are helping shape our future leaders and building a stronger Northwest Louisiana for all. ?? #GDITcares #LiveUnited

  • On Tuesday, we visited Government Plaza for a special Shreveport City Council meeting, where Mayor Arceneaux issued a proclamation declaring today, January 31st, Shreveport’s Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day! ?? This proclamation celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the annual launch of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) tax season. The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) has played a crucial role in lifting millions of low-to-moderate-income workers out of poverty, and the VITA program has been essential in supporting this by providing free federal and state tax preparation for qualified individuals and families throughout Northwest Louisiana. United Way is a proud community partner of the VITA program and looks forward to celebrating the Earned Income Tax Credit and the success it has brought to our community.
