The United Way of New York City team had a packed and successful few days at SOMOS Puerto Rico! ? ?? This annual conference unites the Latine community to raise awareness, advocate, and collaborate on public policy with the NYS Assembly and Senate’s Puerto Rican & Hispanic Task Force. The theme this year was “Navigating Change Together: Fostering Collaboration for a Sustainable Future.” At the conference, UWNYC led a workshop entitled "Inspiring Future Generations: Latine Curriculum for Public Schools," which discussed?the importance of developing a curriculum for NYC public schools centered on Latine and Hispanic history and culture. This upcoming initiative will help reflect the stories and identities of NYC’s public-school students, over 40% of whom identify as Latine or Hispanic. On another panel, our team shared UWNYC’s efforts to expand access to preventative care and other health services.? ?
