Six months ago in the aftermath of our Indian Lake tornado crisis, thousands of donors supported Logan County through United Way in our time of need, as more than $1 million poured in from around the region and 40 states. Today, our neighbors at the United Way of Clark, Champaign & Madison Counties are sharing the need of their humanitarian crisis. Please consider a gift to the Springfield Unity Fund, established yesterday to provide targeted services to Springfield nonprofits supporting our Haitian neighbors. The fund will support a range of services that are essential for successful integration, such as early childhood education, English language classes, driving instruction, employment assistance, healthcare access and other vital programs. Our focus is to ensure that Haitian residents have the tools they need to thrive and contribute positively to the community. https://lnkd.in/gF94N6Ce

Derek Robb and Becca McGillis had the distinct honor to attend a picnic held by the Governor and First Lady, celebrating Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and how this program is promoting early childhood literacy in our great state. 60% of Ohio’s children are enrolled in Ohio’s Imagination Library. When you designate a pledge to the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, you are helping to provide those books for a child free of charge. Unlocking literacy is one of the greatest gifts we can give to our children!

Today we visited Camp Braveheart at Marmon Valley Farms to get a glimpse of one of our programs we fund. The time we spent there was so impactful. For those who don't know, Camp Braveheart is a United Way-funded program of Green Hills / Universal Hospice and is a day camp for kids who have experienced a loss in their lives whether through death or other circumstances out of their control. This is designed to give these kids a chance to meet others who have been through a similar loss, to know they are not alone and to process their grief in a gentle, loving atmosphere. We observed kids in paddle boats, making crafts and went on a hayride with them. We found wonderful volunteers who give of their time and a lot of their energy to make sure these kids are seen and heard. I was given a hug out of the blue and invited back by one of the campers for horse riding the next day. The soothing sounds and atmosphere of the farm almost brought us a renewed sense of peace. We spoke with the director, Lauryn Schlinglof and listened to her stories of how this camp has helped countless young people work through difficult emotions that, by all rights, they shouldn't have to at such young ages. And actually, many of the volunteers find themselves in their own healing process as they lead the kids through the various activities. ?YOUR gift makes this possible free of charge for grieving children and their families as a part of United Way's $40,000 annual allocation to Green Hills / Universal Hospice. This is what United Way does. We facilitate funding and bring people together. If you are interested in learning more about Camp Braveheart and volunteering at our other funded agencies, please feel free to let any of us know at United Way. There are life-changing opportunities out there if your willing! ?
