Thank you to the Wisconsin Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the ACHE WI Service Committee and Wendy Ledesma, MD for inviting me to speak at your annual conference this week. It was an honor to represent our United Way Worldwide network, United Way of Wisconsin, United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County, United Way of South Wood and Adams Counties and United Way of Dane County. During our time together, ACHE-WI created 100 personal care kits supporting teens and adults in South Wood and Adams counties. For many living in poverty or struggling, having access to personal care items to support their health and self-respect is sometimes impossible. Not to mention some personal care items, like menstrual products, are not covered through financial assistance programs and not commonly donated items to food pantries or school closets for students. The creation of these kits connected our neighbors to possibilities and were distributed by United Way of South Wood and Adams Counties to food pantries and school closets in the Wisconsin Dells area. Together, we are committed to creating a lasting, positive impact across Wisconsin.?#PowerofCaringWorkingforAll To learn more about the 38 Wisconsin United Ways visit www.unitedwaywi.org.

WIDA volunteers assembled 315 Snack Packs to provide healthy snacks that benefitted students at Midvale Elementary School! Kids who are hungry are more likely to have behavioral issues, repeat a grade or miss school entirely. Food security for students means improved health, more stability and sets the stage for future success. Thank you, WIDA volunteers! #PowerofCaringWorkingforAll #unitedwaydanecounty #volunteer

EE junior Joshika Nachiappan, with a team including Geographic Information Systems, Economics, and Environmental Studies major, Kathryn Wenzel, have received $5000 in Youth Climate Action funding. Their project, Electrical Free Little Library uses solar power to provide charging stations to Free Little Libraries, thus increasing charging access for all users. This grant, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies in partnership with the City of Madison, United Way of Dane County, and UW-Madison Extension, supports youth-led climate initiatives that align with the City of Madison’s Sustainability Plan. According to Nachiappan, "This grant will help us implement this project in various parts of campus and in Madison, while making a positive impact on our community by promoting environmental awareness and action." This week, we hosted the Saving our Babies Collaboration meeting! It's always so inspiring to get in a room together and work towards tackling big challenges for families right here in Dane County. Saving Our Babies is a comprehensive cross-sector collaboration that brings together health care systems, community organizations and members, public health leaders and service providers to close the gaps in birth outcomes. This collaboration centers the voices of Black women to shape resources and solutions in policy and practices affecting Black maternal and child health. #PowerofCaringWorkingforAll #unitedwaydanecounty #communityhealthy

Currently, only 42% of third grade students in Dane County are reading at grade level. Through our Plan for Community Well-Being, we invest in strategies and programs that help prepare youth for the classroom and life beyond.? ? For example, when one of our Schools of Hope tutors was assigned to two kindergarten boys, she quickly realized their reading ability was well below their peers and they struggled to focus. When the others were writing their names and recognizing their letters and sounds, they were drawing pictures. When the others started stringing sounds together, they were asking to go to the bathroom or to do anything else to avoid the task. They hid their papers from the other kids and made statements like, ¨It’s too hard¨ and ¨I can’t do it.¨ But, through the help of the tutor and strategies structured to fit their unique learning styles, the boys started feeling challenged and began to see success. By the end of the year, they had independently read 3 books to the whole class!? ? Together, we can help more kids in our community! Be one of the ones to make a difference - donate today at https://lnkd.in/e_4bXmy. #PowerofCaringWorkingforAll #unitedwaydanecounty
