This heartfelt story comes from a volunteer who was so inspired by Asheville that he shared his experience with us. ?? During his time in Asheville, he volunteered with Hands On Asheville-Buncombe, helping at multiple organizations, including Equal Plates and Haywood Street Congregation, and witnessed the community’s resilience firsthand. His journey reminds us that volunteering isn’t just about giving—it’s about making connections, sharing kindness, and lifting others up. Thank you to all the volunteers who bring hope and strength to our community. ?? Interested in volunteering? Check out Hands On Asheville-Buncombe today! Shoutout to the incredible GE Aerospace Leadership Team! This amazing group showed up in a BIG way for our Buncombe County and Asheville City school teachers—donating and packing hundreds of teacher goody bags! ?????? Each bag was filled with personalized notes, new classroom supplies, and a few self-care treats to give our educators an extra boost of support. Our WNC teachers have gone above and beyond to create safe, supportive spaces for students—especially in the wake of the devastating flood and extended school closures. ?? Seeing our business community step up for them means the world! We also think it’s amazing to see businesses that prioritize volunteering while traveling for conferences. This is corporate responsibility and awareness at its best! Way to lead by example, GE Aerospace! We LOVE hosting volunteer groups, and we LOVED having GE Aerospace Leadership in the house to make some magic happen. Thank you for giving back to Asheville—our teachers are grateful, and so are we! #LiveUnited #ThankYouGEAerospace #SupportingTeachers #CommunityStrong #CorporateResponsibility

With profound sadness, we share the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Dionne Greenlee, a remarkable individual who possessed a rare kind of power - one forged from love. Dionne's impact on our United Way community has been transformative since she first joined us in 2017 as an NC 211 Information and Referral Specialist. What truly set Dionne apart was her ability to challenge us all to look deeper at our practical commitments to incorporating the voices of those most impacted by the issues we sought to improve. When Dionne saw you, she REALLY saw you - making everyone feel important and valued in a way that was uniquely her own. Her legacy of championing collaboration, equity, and putting community first will continue to guide our work. We are better for having known her, worked alongside her, and learned from her passionate advocacy for ensuring every individual receives both high-quality service and compassionate care.
