Executive Director: America's First Arts Council, MPA . Strategic Development and Nonprofit Specialist
Yesterday we celebrated friend and colleague Carlos Fernandez with our community’s top honor for volunteerism - the Joe Bonansinga Award. His selfless service across all sectors of the nonprofit industry is a shining example of community betterment. Among many credits, Carlos has served on the Arts Quincy board of directors and on several other arts boards. He is probably best known for his work organizing and running the Great River Honor Flight. I was the 2022 honoree for this award, and am still humbled by the recognition. It was an inspiration to take this photo with Carlos and the other past winners who attended yesterday as we all believe in the ideals of service, volunteerism and inspiring others to dream a little bigger for our community. In 2021, Quincy Illinois faced a community challenge that would alter hundreds of people's lives. But because of United Way of Adams County, IL, those individuals were provided care and assistance almost immediately. That was when I began my work with UWAC. In the span of 3 years I learned so much of what United Way does for their agency partners and for our entire community through my volunteer work in different committees and efforts led by them. So when I was asked in 2023 if I would join the board, it was the easiest YES I ever said (don't tell my husband ??)! In March of this year, I was inducted into the board, the same night our organization Preferred Family Healthcare (Clarity Healthcare) was named Business Hero of the Year. I wear this board member badge with honor because to serve at United Way, is to serve for the people of our community. #iAmUnitedWay

Stamp Out Hunger this year was an absolute success! Our community donated 17,900 pounds of food. ALL of this food stays within our community too! There are not words to describe our gratitude to everyone who was involved whether it be through donations, volunteering or distribution. We couldn't do this without help from our community.
