United is a member-owned marketing cooperative that is responsible for selling, marketing, packaging and delivering the sugar of four leading sugar growers in the U.S.?The Director of Sustainability is responsible for leading all aspects of United's sustainability efforts. A large part of this effort is telling the story of their members who are continually investing in ongoing sustainability and regenerative agriculture practices. Additionally, the role is a key interface with their largest consumer packaged goods (CPG) customers to ensure United is addressing their ESG and regulatory requirements. Pre-pile and Slice Harvest Has Kicked Off for Our Members at American Crystal Sugar Company! We're excited to announce that the pre-pile and slice harvest is in full swing for our dedicated members at American Crystal Sugar Company. As you can see in the images below, the hard work, precision, and teamwork are all coming together to ensure a successful season. Our members are out in the fields, making sure every beet counts, and our teams are working tirelessly to bring in the harvest that powers our communities and sweetens our lives. Let the slicing begin!

It's beet sugar planting season in the Red River Valley! Right now, our Members' Growers are busy planting sugar beets from mid-April to early May, with seeds spaced 4.75" apart in 22" rows, totaling around 60,000 seeds per acre and approximately 413,000 acres planned for this year. That's nearly 25 billion seeds in the ground! Each seed yields one sugar beet plant and root for harvest. On average, 29 tons of sugar beets are produced per acre over three years, with each beet weighing about 1.4 lbs. After planting, our Growers focus on using best management practices to control weeds, insects, and diseases that negatively impact crop production and the sugar produced. We are excited for this upcoming growing season!
