We were on the ground in Washington, D.C., advocating for the air ambulance industry alongside our client, Mercy Flights Inc. From meeting with members of Congress to discussing critical support for air medical services, this trip was all about impact. Carrie Reed (pictured with Mercy Flights CEO Sheila Clough) helped lead the charge—balancing in-person advocacy with a Zoom call for another client right from the halls of Congress. And to top it off? We were in town at the same time as the President’s address to Congress—a reminder of the importance of being present where decisions are made. Last week, United Strategies & Consulting had the privilege of accompanying our esteemed clients—Britt Music and Arts Festival, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and Portland Center Stage—to the Salem Capitol. Together, we engaged in meaningful discussions with legislators and staff about the vital role of arts funding in Oregon. The arts are not only the heartbeat of our culture but also a significant economic driver in our state. In 2022, Oregon's arts and culture sector generated $829 million in economic activity, supporting over 13,000 jobs and contributing $155 million in tax revenue to local, state, and federal governments. Our team kicked off the week in Portland at the 2024 Oregon Business Plan Leadership Summit! It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with statewide leaders, gain insights into Oregon’s future, and identify the critical work needed in 2025 to drive progress.

Yesterday, Dave took Isis on a tour through the rich history of the Klamath Basin, immersing her in its agricultural roots and showing her the ropes of the industry firsthand. The Klamath Basin, with its deep-rooted agricultural history, exemplifies a community shaped by the land, its people, and longstanding traditions. You can take the girl out of Kansas, but she will still find a tractor to climb on in Oregon!

United Strategies & Consulting is excited to announce that retiring Klamath County Commissioner Dave Henslee has joined our team, bringing his extensive experience in public service and community leadership to lead our advocacy efforts in the Klamath Basin.' Dave Henslee’s career includes nearly 28 years in law enforcement, retiring as the chief of police for Klamath Falls. His leadership as a Klamath County Commissioner has given him a deep understanding of local government operations and community needs. Dave’s combined experience in public safety, local government, and his role as co-owner of 5H Cattle Company provides him with unique insight into the challenges faced by rural communities and the agricultural sector. With a background in strategic planning, crisis management, and public policy, Dave will be instrumental in advocating for our clients’ interests in Salem and Washington, D.C., ensuring that Basin’s voice is represented at all levels of government. Dave holds a degree in Political Science from Oregon State University and is an alumnus of the FBI National Academy. "Helping communities thrive has always been my priority," Dave Henslee said. We are so pleased and relieved that Measure 118, which proposed significant tax increases on local industries and residents, was defeated in the recent election. United Strategies & Consulting is proud to have played a key role in the statewide campaign led by Oregon Business and Industry by leading the opposition in Southern Oregon, working with community leaders and stakeholders to ensure that voters were informed of the measure’s potential negative impacts. Had Measure 118 passed, it would have imposed steep taxes affecting local businesses and families, threatening economic stability and job growth across the region. Our team executed a strategic campaign to communicate these consequences, ultimately helping voters in Coos, Curry, Josephine, Jackson and Klamath Counties make a well-informed decision.
