A stateless-led & only national organization advocating on behalf of those impacted by statelessness in the US.

关于我们

United Stateless (USL) is a national United States-based organization led by stateless people living in the United States whose mission is to build and inspire community among those affected by statelessness, and to advocate for their human rights. We envision a world where everyone’s human right to nationality is respected and upheld. In these early years, one of our primary goals is to solve the situation for stateless people who live in the United States.

? Protecting Birthright Citizenship is Protecting Human Rights ? The Fourteenth Amendment was ratified to ensure justice and equality in the U.S. Efforts to end birthright citizenship threaten this legacy and would increase the number of stateless individuals who already face exclusion and deprivation of rights. At United Stateless, we oppose any efforts that threaten access to birthright citizenship. ?? Take action to prevent the rise of statelessness.? ?? Today, we celebrate the freedom that comes with holding a passport—something many take for granted but represents an extraordinary milestone for stateless people. After decades as a stateless person, citizenship has unlocked the world for him. The simple act of travel, of moving freely, is more than a privilege; it’s a human right. Henry, the world is yours. May your journeys be filled with discovery, joy, and the peace that comes from knowing you belong. ????? We will continue to urge Congress to pass the Stateless Protection Act, ensuring all stateless people in the U.S. have the freedom and belonging that citizenship provides.

Henry Pachnowski’s path to U.S. citizenship is a story of resilience and hope. Born stateless in Germany during WWII, Henry came to the U.S. at 11, carrying dreams that faced decades of challenges—from losing his green card due to a conviction for something that is no longer considered a crime to being arrested for his identity and living without nationality or basic rights. At 84, after an arduous journey, Henry finally became a U.S. citizen. Reflecting on this moment, he said, 'It was a long road, but I never gave up.' Read more of Henry’s inspiring journey, featured by Thomas G?tz and Marco Longari for Kleine Zeitung of Austria. ????? Link: https://lnkd.in/eAJcC8Gv

We are excited to be part of the conversation at #GCIR2024, exploring critical issues around alternative pathways including stateless individuals to access the freedom to move and stay. Our Executive Director, Karina Ambartsoumian-Clough, will be joining an inspiring group of leaders to highlight the often-overlooked stateless community in the U.S. We look forward to contributing insights on how we can work collectively to build more inclusive and humane systems for those impacted by statelessness and displacement. #Statelessness #ImmigrationJustice #FreedomOfMovement #GCIR2024 #UnitedStateless #DetroitLeads

"Statelessness strips people of their right to exist, but it doesn't have to be this way. As Filippo Grandi and Cate Blanchett highlight, 'There is no justification for statelessness; there are solutions.' For over 200,000 stateless people in the U.S., the daily reality includes lack of access to basic rights—like education, work, and identity documents. These are not just bureaucratic challenges; they define lives and futures. At United Stateless, we believe in elevating stateless voices and fighting for the solutions that already exist. It's time to take action, and we’re committed to advocating for the Stateless Protection Act to ensure every person can access their fundamental rights.

You can’t get a job or have a bank account and basic benefits are not an option as you don’t officially exist. But your family needs feeding, so you take any work you can find – irregular, poorly paid, maybe dangerous. You’d call a relative to ask for help but your phone isn’t working because your SIM card has vanished. No school has any record of your child so is unable to register her, and the classroom door shuts in her face. This gives you a taste of how?things are for?stateless people?– though for many of them statelessness is not a sudden affliction but something they have endured since birth. ?? Cate Blanchett, actor and Goodwill Ambassador for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, write for Context. ?? https://lnkd.in/efe4-Xw2?
