?? Expanding Access to Early Intervention—A Major Milestone! United Services for Children is proud to announce the opening of a new Early Intervention classroom, a critical expansion that has allowed us to significantly reduce our waitlist and serve many more children and families in our community. Because our classrooms host multiple class groups on different schedules, adding just one new room has created a substantial impact—expanding access to vital early intervention services while maintaining our high-quality, small-group learning environment. This growth was made possible by the ongoing support of the Developmental Disabilities Resource Board of St. Charles County (DDRB) of St. Charles County. Their investment in early intervention helps ensure that more children receive the support they need at a critical stage of development. We are excited for what this means for our families and look forward to continued collaboration with our partners and supporters to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive. ??

From Parent to Occupational Therapist: Meet Kate! Kate’s journey with United Services for Children started long before she joined our team—she was first a parent in our Early Intervention (EI) classrooms! After her children graduated to preschool, she brought her passion for helping children to a new role, joining us as an Occupational Therapist in 2021. Today, Kate works with both our EI classrooms and outpatient clients, helping kids build critical skills through creative, play-based therapy. She’s also a leader in our OT department, mentoring new therapists and even launching an Occupational Therapy Lunch-and-Learn program to foster growth and collaboration among her colleagues. “Her creativity is one of a kind when it comes to adapting equipment,” says Carolyn, a COTA at United Services. “One time, I needed a button hook to trial with a client, and Kate immediately took action. Given just a pencil and a paperclip, she created exactly what we needed. She will always find a way.” We’re so lucky to have Kate on our team—her dedication, expertise, and innovative spirit continue to make a difference for children and families every day. #UnitedServicesForChildren, #StaffSpotlight, #OccupationalTherapy, #EarlyIntervention

This program allows families of children and adults with disabilities to benefit from a tax-advantaged savings account. If your child is entitled to social security benefits as a result of disability or blindness that occurred before he or she turned 26, your family is eligible to participate. We incorporate sign language into many activities in our early intervention program. Whether a child is pre-verbal, verbal, hearing or deaf, sign language can meet many of their communication needs. Find out more about how to incorporate sign language at home in this Handy Handout from Jennifer Vroom, Speech Language Pathologist. https://bit.ly/4173EwE #ChildDevelopment, #ChildrenThriving

Does your child work with an occupational therapist or a feeding therapist to increase their interest in trying new foods or food textures? If so, you may have heard of food chaining, the step-by-step process of starting with a food your child likes and then making small changes to help them try it in a new way. Find out more from Milestone Clinic, a mentoring program for new occupational therapists. https://bit.ly/41trcNw #OccupationalTherapy, #ChildDevelopment
