??♀? Volunteering with Feed My Starving Children to Power Communities Beyond Equipment ?? ?? Wednesday morning, our team swapped equipment for hairnets for a mission: fighting child hunger with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC). In just one session, we packed 131 boxes, that’s 28,296 meals, enough to feed 77 children for an entire year! ???? Heartbreakingly, hunger is the cause of nearly half of deaths in children under 5 years old globally. From this data, it's estimated at least 6,200 children die each day from causes related to undernutrition. Hunger is a crisis, but hope starts with food. These meals aren’t just food; they are a lifeline. FMSC is an organization that provides hope, ensuring communities have the nutrition needed to grow, thrive, and build a better future. We were honored to play a small part in that mission. A couple of hours, a few hundred scoops of rice, and a lot of teamwork = a world of difference. ?? Black Builders of Chicago: The Blueprint for Change Chicago’s skyline tells a story, but some of the most important names have been left out of the narrative. Beverly Lorraine Greene is one of these names, and her story has left a legacy of resilience. ??? In 1936, she became the first Black woman to earn an architectural engineering degree from the University of Illinois. ??? She was hired at Chicago’s Housing Authority in 1938 but found little opportunity due to systemic discrimination. ?? Greene didn’t let that stop her. She moved to New York, earning a master’s in architecture from Columbia University and working on projects that would shape cities worldwide. ?? In New York, despite facing further discrimination, she worked on major projects, including the Arts Complex at Sarah Lawrence College. ??? Her influence reached beyond the U.S., helping design the UNESCO United Nations Headquarters in Paris. Beverly Lorraine Greene's story is proof that talent can rise, even in the face of unfair adversity. The history of Black contributions to Chicago’s construction industry is still being written. By supporting diversity in hiring, mentorship, and training, we ensure that the next generation of builders has every opportunity to thrive.
