March is National #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth. We're proud to stand with Fight Colorectal Cancer and the many partner organizations for United In Blue. Colorectal cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in men, and second for women. We must raise awareness and stop the rise in young adults and work together to support survivors.

Now for some good news! UOAA Advocacy is in action for you and has a win to report for people using Adapt Health. UOAA Advocacy Manager Jeanine Gleba heard concerns from colostomate extended wear barrier users needing unnecessary eligibility and documentation requirements to get the supplies they need and covered by Medicare. We took this to the top of the company and are happy to report that this is no longer a requirement. Just another way UOAA Advocacy, fueled by donor support, is fighting behind the scenes for the ostomy community and ensuring they have access to the supplies they need.

Who’s Raising Awareness? A shining example is Stacy Krakower, BSN, RN, CWON. She has been a nurse for over 20 years. For the last seven years she has been a certified wound and ostomy nurse working at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ, as a member of the inpatient wound and ostomy team. She stresses how important education also is in raising awareness, “I feel that ostomy nurses speak a language that not everyone speaks and it is our job to help translate. We translate for ostomates, their families, and more often for other healthcare professionals who don’t understand our vocabulary. Being translators reduces friction and often results in needs being met more efficiently.” https://lnkd.in/eBaJAEeW Let us know how you are raising #ostomyawareness.
