2 billion women and girls worldwide have no access to any form of social protection. Latest data from UN Women shows social protection levels have increased since 2015, but gender gaps have widened in most developing regions – suggesting that the recent gains have benefited men more than women. Handwashing is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of diseases. Yet, 2.3 billion people at home and around 802 million children at school lack access to proper handwashing facilities with soap and water. Escalating violence in northern Gaza is having a disastrous impact on food security. No food aid has entered the north since 1 October. Food distribution points, as well as kitchens and bakeries have been forced to shut down due to airstrikes, military ground operations and evacuation orders. In southern and central Gaza, the situation is also dire. There are also no active food distributions sites and bakeries are struggling to remain open. WFP urgently needs safe and sustained access to deliver life-saving food assistance. https://lnkd.in/dmdyV6nA
