We?are encouraged by the incredible response to the 2025 UN Ocean Conference (UNOC3) Open Call for Side Events, with?640 applications?submitted for in-person side events within the Conference Venue (Blue Zone) by last Friday’s deadline. This remarkable level of engagement reflects the strong commitment and urgency surrounding ocean action! ? Space within the Blue Zone is very limited, so while the Secretariat thoroughly reviews all submissions, organizers are encouraged to apply by 21 April for off-site and virtual side events. These events will also be included in the official side events programme, providing valuable opportunities for all voices to be heard and contribute meaningfully to UNOC3. ? ?? Setting the course towards the 2026 UN Water Conference Preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference have kicked off with an organizational session at UN Headquarters in New York on 3 March. Explore some of the main takeaways from the session where Member States, UN entities and stakeholders discussed key priorities for accelerating #WaterAction ?? which will take place from 2 – 4 December in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), co-hosted by Senegal and UAE. ?? Water access is drying up – Adapting to climate change, protecting water ecosystems, and enhancing disaster risk reduction should be prioritized. ?? Urgency and partnerships are key – The 2026 UN Water Conference must turn the tide from commitments to real impact by promoting knowledge-sharing, governance frameworks and equitable access to water. ?? A wave of innovation – Technology, AI, nature-based solutions and financing will be critical to achieving sustainable water management. ?? Bridging the gap – Many called for building on the themes from the 2023 UN Water Conference while integrating new dimensions such as technology, regional cooperation and capacity building. ?? Water pollution and scarcity – Addressing pollution, improving wastewater reuse and strengthening sustainable resource management were important areas of focus.
