Lupe Valdovino has over 27 years of experience working with non-profit agencies in various positions, from data analyst to grant accounting. Most of her experience has been working with federal and state grants, where she deepened her understanding of grant-related compliance and procedures. As Grants Financial Administrator, Ms. Valdovino will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and various UG Departments to provide guidance regarding seeking and receiving federal funding, compliance with local and federal regulations, and the development and implementation of grant policies and procedures. The Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office is launching a nationwide search for qualified candidates to fill the Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) Administrator position. After 30 years of service, the current Administrator will be retiring this June. This highly skilled role will oversee all aspects of Juvenile Detention Center operations and programs. UG Appoints Director of Public Works & Changes to Strategic Communications Troy Shaw Appointed Public Works Director The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Troy Shaw, P.E. as Director of Public Works, effective immediately. Mr. Shaw, who has been the Interim Director since 2024, joined the UG in 2017 as the County Engineer following time spent with the City of Lawrence, KS. He has worked to strengthen collaboration, build trust, and enhance the department’s commitment to excellence in customer service. Ashley Z. Hand, AIA?has announced plans to leave the Unified Government later this month. Mrs. Hand was appointed the first Director of Strategic Communications in 2021, where she launched the Department of Strategic Communications under County Administration and led various initiatives to improve outbound and internal communications, reevaluate community engagement approaches, and instituted innovative ways to share information across Wyandotte County. David Johnston has named Public Information Officer?Krystal R. McFeders, MAT, MBA to Interim Director of Strategic Communications until further notice, effective Wednesday, March 16, 2025. Ms. McFeders started her career with the UG in 2021 with a diverse background in communications, community engagement, nonprofit operations, and education. The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas (UG), has launched an interactive project website for the Vision Zero Action Plan, a comprehensive plan to improve transportation safety on county roadways in the City of Bonner Springs, City of Edwardsville, City of Lake Quivira and Kansas City, KS.? The website introduces the community to #VisionZero, offering background and an overview of the existing safety concerns in Wyandotte County. An interactive engagement map allows users to add locations where they observe safety issues for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists. Individuals who live, work, and play in Wyandotte County are encouraged to visit the website and add concerns to the engagement map. The County and Vision Zero Project Team will utilize community feedback from the engagement map as they develop a complete analysis of transportation safety data. “Our community is the first line of input for where they encounter safety issues and crashes in their daily travels.
