Despite facing higher poverty rates, housing challenges, and limited access to healthcare, Latinos demonstrated remarkable resilience, exemplified by the Latino Epidemiologic Paradox—lower mortality rates from heart disease and cancer, and longer life expectancy compared to non-Latino populations.? .? The paradox, driven by strong family networks and cultural protective factors, was now at risk as acculturation eroded these advantages. Dr. Betancourt emphasized the importance of tackling social determinants, improving access to meaningful care, and advocating for policies that address health disparities.? .? Together, we had to champion healthcare access for all, ensuring that health insurance, quality care, and culturally appropriate services were available to Latino communities.
