??Full house: over 150 companies at Cameroonian-German Investment Forum Despite their differences in GDP and population size, all Central African countries share the same objective: Develop new value chains, lower dependency on imports and create new jobs. The region already benefits from the engagement of the diaspora community, whose members have invested in anything from industrial bakeries to engineering firms and BPO services. Several forward-looking German Companies have also set up regional clusters to allow for short supply chains and local value creation. In its current Private Sector Mission to Central Africa, ITPO Germany is cooperating with the regional representatives of German companies as well as members of the diaspora. Starting in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, the group met with government authorities and business organizations, which helped to establish contacts with local investors and companies in the infrastructure, food processing and energy sector. Over in Cameroon, more than 150 local companies participated in an investment round table, a finance workshop and a B2B matchmaking event. All this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the UNIDO Regional Office in Yaoundé and partners like UNDP, Agentur für Wirtschaft und Entwicklung, @German Embassy Yaoundé, @CCIMA and @GECAM. We are impressed by the efforts of local entrepreneurs as well as city mayors from remote parts of Cameroon to travel long distances in order to create new partnerships. There is no chicken and egg problem – just a lot of opportunities at EuroTier 2024 ?? The poultry sector is an important industry in terms of sustainability and nutritional value to feed a growing population, combining food security with sustainability. Did you know that the CO2 footprint?and GHG emissions of chicken meat production has been reduced by over 75% since that 1960s and is amongst the lowest of all commodities, using 58% less water and 72% less water than before? Or, that chicken meat makes up only 1,5% of global share of agricultural production to GHG emissions, compared with 35% for ruminant meat (cattle) and 30% for human crop production? This year, the leading international trade fair for professional animal farming and livestock management also hosts the 'World Poultry Show' and 'EnergyDecentral' exhibition focusing on biogas and renewable energy technologies. UNIDO ITPO Germany organized the visit of 16 representatives from 7 African countries active in the poultry and biogas sectors. The participants from Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo and Zambia used the time in Hanover to connect with new potential partners from Europe, explore new innnovative solutions. In addition to participating in EuroTier Trade Fair, the delegation visited a larger farm in Lower Saxony and had the chance to exchange with agritech-company RIELA Karl-Heinz Knoop e.K., a supplier of dryers, silos and feed mills in many African markets. On Friday, 15 November, the group visited a German School of Agricultural Engineering from DEULA Nienburg and Larvae Solutions GmbH, a company producing technology for the usage of larvae for chicken feed. Thank you to Benjamin Knell, MBA, Inna Njanjo from INZAG Germany GmbH for presenting their suited financing solutions for African markets and to Axel Hilckmann for engaging with the group in regards to sustainability in the poultry sector! ??"The African continent holds immense potential, particularly in the agricultural sector. I believe that technology transfer and investments can help address food insecurity while creating sustainable jobs. Promoting sustainable agribusiness investments in developing countries can make a real difference, with the private sector serving as the backbone of sustainable development," emphasized Prof. Dr. Rolf Steltemeier, Head of UNIDO ITPO Germany, at UNIDO’s “World Without Hunger Conference (#WWHC)” in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia ???? The three-day conference featured solution-oriented technical sessions, an investment forum, and a high-level political forum, gathering over 1,500 high-level participants. ??At the panel on “Bridging Technology and Investment: The ITP Network’s Approach for a World Without Hunger,” moderated by Jessica Neumann, Expert at ITPO Germany, the 10 offices around 8 countries presented their efforts to promote sustainable agribusiness projects and to facilitate the transfer of environmentally friendly technologies. The conference was co-organized by UNIDO, the African Union Commission (AUC), and the Government of Ethiopia, with technical assistance from the Food and FAO.

On Tuesday, a group of 10 innovative start-ups from Ghana visited the UN Campus in Bonn and presented their technologies and projects to UNIDO ITPO Germany. The company representatives are participating in a 2-month study tour in Germany under the umbrella of the initiative WIN NRW.AFRIKA to connect with potential partners and stakeholders. The companies are active in various sectors such as circular economy, e-mobility, logistics, smart energy, health, agribusiness and industry 4.0. Through their visit to Germany, the start-ups can not only showcase their solutions to a targeted audience but also share their experiences on the Ghanaian market with German counterparts to arouse interest in Ghana. As a major hub in West Africa, Ghana is an interesting market which provides numerous untapped opportunities for investments in various sectors. Political stability and steady economic growth for 40 years proof that the country is a primary investment destination. ???? This is what happened at the first International Conference on Agri-Value Chain Investment in Mogadishu (1-2 October 2024)? ? One of Somalia‘s top priorities is expanding agricultural production and developing new value chains. In order to support the country's efforts, the UNIDO ITPO Germany private sector delegation led by Andreas Sch?fer had numerous discussions and exchanges with the public and private sector: ? H.E. Hassan Sheik Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Salah Ahmed Jama, Deputy Prime Minister for the Federal Government of Somalia and H.E. Asad Mohamed, Federal State Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, visited the booths of the seven companies mobilized by ITPO Germany. Additionally, the delegation had numerous exchanges with Somalia’s dynamic private sector. The country’s farmers are investing in new systems for irrigation and food processing, providing abundant opportunities for joint projects. Testing and certification of agricultural products is another growth area, as it will allow local producers to seek new export markets. ? Dr. Hamed Beheshti, CEO of Boreal Light GmbH, Rimma P. Honsberg, CEO of EMPO-NI off-grid solutions and Dr. Albert Esper, CEO of Innotech Ingenieursgesellschaft mbH were invited to the panels on “Building partnerships and unleashing investment opportunities for the productive sectors”. ? At a dinner with the IFC - International Finance Corporation, the companies learned how the development institution, which is a member of the The World Bank, finances private-enterprise investment in Somalia. The two-day conference will be closed tonight by a joint dinner with H.E. Mohamed Abdi Hayir (Maareeye), Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation. ? Thank you EU Delegation to Somalia, UNIDO Somalia Programme and UNIDO ITPO Italy for the great cooperation! What do solar drying, direct drive pumps, desalination systems, innovative sanitary solutions, mobile injection moulding units and seawater greenhouse technology have in common? They all help create value chains and add to sustainable development in places where living conditions are challenging. Somalia is a case in point. 3330 (some say 3333) km of coastline, but only 2860 km of paved roads mean that your nearest warehouse can be somewhat distant. ? Fortunately, new solutions are not just on the horizon, but already market proven. UNIDO ITPO Germany has mobilized seven European companies that will build partnerships at Mogadishu’s “First International Conference on Agri-value Chain Investment” on 1 and 2 October 2024 (https://lnkd.in/ehYY93ce), Boreal Light GmbH, Seawater Greenhouse Ltd, EMPO-NI off-grid solutions, plasticpreneur, WaSH Innovation and DOT Glasses will present their solutions, exhibit at individual booths and take part in B2B meetings with local companies. ? Based on UNIDO’s engagement with the EU Delegation to Somalia, both the EU Delegation to Somalia and the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Federal Government of Somalia have requested the UNIDO Somalia technical team to share the experience gathered from organizing similar events in Mogadishu. UNIDO ITPO Germany and UNIDO ITPO Italy managed to mobilize a record number of innovative companies to participate in the event. ITPO Germany builds upon previous engagements with Somalia, including a delegate programme for Somali and Sudanese companies around Off Grid Expo + Conference in Augsburg, Germany, and a Private Sector Mission with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency to the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, which hosts many Somali refugees, as well as a mission to the Dadaab refugee camp near the border with Somalia. Did you know that the oil palm is native to Nigeria? Oil palms produce 3,3 t/ha of vegetable oil and are therewith the most productive crops when it comes to the production of oil (rapeseed 0,7t/ha, coconut 0,7t/ha, sunflower 0,7t/ha, soya 0,4 t/ha). Oil palms require less land than alternatives which is important in a world of growing populations. The question of how to cultivate them in a sustainable manner however remains and brings a lot of challenges. Nigeria is the largest producer of palm oil on the African continent and one of the largest in the world. Simultaneously, the country is the 7th largest consumer of palm oil in the world and therefore has a huge domestic market to satisfy. In order to promote the development of industrial and sustainable palm oil production in Nigeria, UNIDO ITPO Germany is organizing a Private Sector Mission to the country in November 2024. The trip includes visits to Cross-River, Akwa Ibom and Abia States as well as two days in Lagos, the commercial hub of the country. During the trip, various meetings with political and private stakeholders are planned as well as field trips to palm oil plantations, mills and refineries. Meet the delegation??With a variety of sustainable technologies, the participating companies offer targeted solutions for the sector: - PALMS GmbH sets up smaller hubs for the industrial production of palm wine. Currently, the famous beverage is produced artisanal with a low shelf life and therefore low market potential. - RENTEC n.v. - BELGIUM is a producer of oil palm mills and has over 35 years of experience on the African market. The high extraction rates and efficiency of the mills lead to a low ecological footprint. - Simon M?hringer Anlagenbau GmbH has developed a technology to process oil palm trunks to use the material as parts for buildings or furniture. Harvested palm trunks are currently not of any usage as they are difficult to process. - Sludge Management Company Ltd. offers full service solutions for the certified collection of POME (Palm Oil Mill Effluent) and waste vegetable oil. The company is based in Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Gabon. ??Interested companies, providing sustainable technologies for the sector, can still join the trip by contacting [email protected] to receive more information.
