"I feel like I will never reach my goals and dreams.” 15-year-old Laala* from Afghanistan was in 8th grade when her education was taken from her. For over three years, she has been waiting and hoping for the chance to return to school, to her friends, to a future filled with opportunities. But instead, her days are now filled with household chores and the pressure to marry looms over her. "It’s not just that I can’t go to school. I can’t even meet my friends to talk or just have fun." Her mother, Gulchehra*, knows this struggle all too well. “I was just 10 years old, in 4th grade, when the Taliban first came to Afghanistan in 1996 and shut down our schools." By 14, she was married. Now, she fears history repeating itself with her daughter. "I hope she will have the chance to go back to school, to become educated, and to live a life of her own choosing." Education is not a privilege. It’s a right. Every girl has the right to learn, dream and shape her own future. ?? #GirlGoals *Names changed
