We had an incredible day at the 11th Annual Adaptive Physical Education Conference at the University of New Hampshire! A huge thank you to our keynote speaker, Dr. Anthony Maher, and special invited speakers, Dr. Matt Townsley and Dr. Justin Haegele, for sharing their expertise on inclusive physical education. From research to practical strategies, this event was full of insightful discussions on teaching disabled young people in physical education. Thank you to all the attendees for making this such a meaningful experience! #APEConference #UNH #UNHCHHS ??

Had an amazing time today speaking with Mark Bonica, PHD and his HMP majors at University of New Hampshire. We dove into career tracks, expectations, and the importance of finding your passion. One key takeaway: there’s never a straight path to success, but building meaningful relationships along the way is crucial. Keep exploring and stay curious! #healthcarecareers #futureleaders #findyourpassion

UNH’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) prepares mid-career nurses to advance to the highest level of nursing practice. DNP preparation includes leadership, clinical and management skills, and an emphasis on transforming healthcare delivery and practice for quality and safety. Each year the members of the graduating class undertake quality improvement projects that build upon students' professional backgrounds with research to address challenges in healthcare. There were 19 projects presented at the 2024 DNP symposium, and we've featured three on our blog! Carbon fiber-plated, or CFP, running shoes, are on the feet of nearly every elite runner, and their advantage to those athletes is well documented. ?? But could they give recreational runners and off-the-couch 5K competitors an edge? Yes, a team of UNH undergraduate researchers found. The students recruited 22 runners to run five kilometers on the treadmill in UNH’s Kertzer Exercise Laboratory in their own shoes, CFP shoes and a high-performance shoe without a carbon fiber plate. On average, the runners shaved 48 seconds off their 5K time in the CFP shoes, a 3% improvement. ? The project was personally relevant to the students, who are all runners. “Many recreational runners have personal goals and want to set new personal records. They may not be elite competitors, but they’re not just running for fun—they want to improve and see progress,” says researcher Amanda Ares '25. The student researchers — Ares, Morgan Koskela ’25, Owen Daigle ’26 and Allison Petry ’25 — collaborated with an athletic shoe company and presented their findings to industry experts. Associate professor of kinesiology Summer Cook was the team’s mentor. UNH College of Health and Human Services (CHHS)

Proud partner moment: My talented, dedicated husband Brent Bell was featured on University of New Hampshire's blog, which did a course spotlight on his Foundations of Adventure Education class. Ever since that first wacky COVID autumn of 2020, Brent has taught this course outdoors, flipping the "classroom" to make in-class time active and experiential and have students review his PowerPoint notes on their own. I also love that the story references Brent Rock, the boulder on campus his students have named for him. And a shoutout to my excellent colleague Emily Kulp for researching and writing this blog post. UNH College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) https://lnkd.in/eYputfNT

A little networking can go a long way! Last week, CHHS students attended the 2025 career fair, where they expanded their professional networks and formed relationships with area business leaders in the healthcare and human service industries. It was an exciting day full of connection and inspiration! Many thanks to all who attended, including students, alumni, and employers! We look forward to these events and they wouldn't be possible without such enthusiastic community support!

UNH’s Listening Lab Transforms Learning & Care ???? UNH’s Communication Sciences and Disorders students now have access to state-of-the-art audio equipment, thanks to generous donor support! The new listening lab enhances classroom learning, allowing students to analyze speech, assess hearing, and gain hands-on clinical experience, preparing them for future careers and making a real impact in the community. From high-fidelity recordings that sharpen diagnostic skills to diverse learning materials that keep young clients engaged, these donor funded tools enhance both education and patient care. Laura Gonnerman, chair of the Center for Digital Health Innovation and the communication sciences and disorders program at UNH says “I really enjoy that relationship with our donors – sometimes they are former students or people in the community, or people who have loved ones who have communication issues.” The donors to the lab make a direct impact not only on UNH students, but also members of the greater community. Clinic clients and students alike benefit from the experience. Thank you to our donors for making this possible! Read more about the listening lab on our blog. #UNH #Studentsuccess #UNHCSD
