Hundreds of people, including women and children, have been killed following air strikes across #Gaza on 18 March 2025, shattering the fragile ceasefire that had been in place since mid-January. Families have been torn apart overnight, with relatives still searching for loved ones among the rubble. The situation is intolerable. On 2 March, Israeli authorities announced a halt to humanitarian aid entering Gaza, not respecting international law. The lack of food is increasing hunger and malnutrition and health risks for an estimated 50,000 pregnant women. Life-saving medical supplies are also languishing at the border, leaving exhausted medical staff ill-equipped to deal with critical cases including obstetric emergencies. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) echoes calls for the ceasefire to be reinstated immediately. The blockade on life-saving aid must be lifted. An end to hostilities, sustained humanitarian assistance, the release of hostages and the restoration of basic services, are the only way forward.
