But deforestation disrupted this connection. Now, they are reclaiming their role as protectors of the land. Irma Tsahuanda, a leader from Ecuador’s Yamanunka community, is at the forefront of this movement. Through the Nua Kakaram (Brave Women) Association, she is restoring traditional practices, leading reforestation efforts and empowering women to build sustainable livelihoods.
