Next week, I will join global leaders at the 2025 Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) Global Forum in Barbados to drive action on Sustainable Energy for Development. With a focus on Sustainable Energy for Equity, Security and Prosperity, this year's Forum presents a critical opportunity to shape bold partnerships; mobilize investments; and advance policy solutions that put energy at the heart of sustainable and human development. In 2025, it is critical that we move from intent to impactful action. Beyond traditional approaches, UNDP is working with governments and partners to scale innovative financing - from blended finance to de-risking mechanisms - to ensure that capital flows where it is actually required. ? Riad Meddeb (Director of Sustainable Energy Hub, UNDP, United States) for an interactive student-requested and student-facilitated panel on the daily responsibilities and career trajectories of senior leadership in the Climate & Sustainability fields. Global Mentorship Initiative is a global nonprofit bridging the gap between graduation and first career jobs for underrepresented young professionals from diverse communities. Many SIDS have committed to 100% renewable energy in their power mix by 2030,, with a collective goal of adding 13 GW of new capacity. But achieving these targets requires more than infrastructure—it demands a whole-island ecosystem approach that integrates energy with food security, water management, marine industries, and economic resilience. ????????? ? Solar irrigation systems can enhance agricultural productivity, while renewable-powered desalination and cold storage improve food and water security ?? Resilient Infrastructure – Decentralized microgrids, battery storage, and predictive climate tools can strengthen energy resilience, ensuring reliable power for critical services such as healthcare and disaster response ? UNDP is working with #SIDS to scale solutions that integrate energy with blue and green economies, making renewables a driver of long-term prosperity and self-reliance.? ? Solid-State Batteries and The Future of Mobility ???? As we move towards a more sustainable energy future, Solid-State Batteries (SSBs) are set to transform electric vehicles; renewable energy storage; and public transport. Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, SSBs use a solid electrolyte as opposed to a liquid one, offering higher energy density, improved safety, and longer lifecycle.?? But why Solid-State Batteries? ?? Higher Energy Density: Delivering 5X more energy for the same weight as conventional batteries, making them ideal for industrial applications. ?? Faster Charging Times: Fully charged in 10-15 minutes, unlike lithium-ion batteries. ?? Safer and More Stable: Addressing fire and safety concerns by using non-flammable solid materials. ?? 30-40% Weight Reduction: Improving the overall efficiency of the devices or vehicles they power. ?? 10-100 Hours of Energy Storage: Important for improving grid security and building resilient infrastructures for developing countries. ?? Lower Carbon Footprint: Using far fewer critical minerals like cobalt & nickel, reducing their overall climate impact by up to 39%.
