?? Nature Needs Its Own ID ?? For too long, nature has been invisible in our economic systems. While we measure GDP growth and corporate profits, the ecosystems that sustain us remain off the balance sheet. The result? Unchecked exploitation, habitat destruction, and escalating climate risks. But what if nature had its own ID? Just as people rely on IDs to access services and legal protections, a digital nature ID could transform the way we recognize, protect, and invest in our natural world. By integrating real-time ecological data, tracking ecosystem services, and ensuring legal recognition, we can make nature visible, valuable, and vital in decision-making. ?? UNDP, with support from The Rockefeller Foundation and partners, is exploring this transformative concept. Digital public infrastructure for nature could empower governments, businesses, and communities to take nature-positive action at scale. ?? It’s time to stop treating nature as an afterthought. Let’s give it the recognition it deserves. Resilient tourism empowers communities, preserves nature, and drives economic growth. In Ecuador their forests are under immense pressure from the oil industry, mining, illegal logging, roads, and human expansion, but the Achuar indigenous community have continued to protect their forest by developing an ecotourism industry that supports local communities and promotes conservation activities. On #GlobalTourismResilience Day, see how they’re leading the way #ForPeopleForPlanet: https://lnkd.in/gYjqj224 Photo: Jake Matthews/Fundación Pachamama Kapawi

This week, Ambassador Peter Thomson, United Nations Secretary General's Special Envoy for the Ocean, issued a urgent call to leaders around the world to step up financial commitments to protect Earths's coral reefs. Coral reefs, which support over 25% of all marine life and provide livelihoods for over a billion people worldwide, are under unprecedented threat. Scientists warn we are in the midst of the fourth global mass bleaching event, driven by climate change, with approximately 80% of the world’s coral reefs already affected. As Ambassador Thomson declared, “Our generation must be the one to right the wrongs we have inflicted on nature. There is no excuse for inaction.” He urged leaders to treat this as a planetary emergency, calling for bold investment to the Global Fund for Coral Reefs and increased global action to reverse this trajectory before it is too late. ?? Investing in Nature: Introducing The Three Pillars of the NIF ???? In today's rapidly evolving investment landscape, sustainable solutions are more critical than ever. The Nature Investment Facility (NIF) is designed to mobilize private investments in outcomes that positively impact the environment. By protecting, restoring, and sustaining at-risk natural World Heritage landscapes, the NIF seeks to drive transformative, long-term change for both people and the planet. Three Pillars of NIF: 1?? Enabling Investment: Strengthening policies to attract investments. 2?? Catalysing Investment: Using concessional funding to de-risk private capital. 3?? Direct Investment: Scaling sustainable projects for lasting impact. ?Why NIF Matters: - It bridges the critical funding gap by unlocking private sector capital. - It ensures long-term impact by combining grant funding with innovative financing mechanisms. - It partners with Indigenous peoples and local communities to foster inclusive, sustainable development. #SustainableInvestment #NatureFinance #ImpactInvesting
