Today, the Viet Nam Ministry of Health (MOH), through the Viet Nam Administration of Medical Services (VAMS), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Korean Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH), officially launched the project “Telehealth to improve access to healthcare services for disadvantaged groups in Viet Nam.” This project aims to improve the health of disadvantaged populations by boosting digital transformation in health and enhancing the accessibility and quality of grassroots health services. Viet Nam has made important progress in improving healthcare access and quality. However, barriers persist for communities in remote areas, ethnic minorities, and those facing climate change impacts. This project seeks to address these gaps through telehealth, focusing on ten provinces, including Ha Giang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Yen Bai, Tay Ninh, Hau Giang, Ben Tre, and Ca Mau. By leveraging the “Doctor for Everyone” system, which has already connected over 1.3 million users to telemedicine services and trained more than 3,000 healthcare workers, the project aims to enhance IT infrastructure, train healthcare providers, and integrate digital systems into the VTelehealth platform. In celebration of International Day for Biosphere Reserves (BR), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP), in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), convened a dialogue on supporting sustainable livelihoods for communities in the buffer zones of Viet Nam’s biosphere reserves (BRs). Part of a 3-day event in Nghe An from November 7 to 9, the dialogue underscores the vital role of these communities in protecting biodiversity while building resilient livelihoods. The Project “Mainstreaming Natural Resources Management and Biodiversity Conservation Objectives in Socio-Economic Development Planning and Management of Biosphere Reserves in Vietnam” (the BR Project), funded by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and implemented by the MONRE and UNDP, has leveraged the Low Value Grants (LVG) modality under the Small Grants Programs (GEF SGP) to support 14 communes in 3 BRs of Tay Nghe An, Cu Lao Cham – Hoi An and Dong Nai to implement livelihood models in sustainable agroforestry production, animal husbandry and community-based ecotourism, etc. It has contributed to the more effective management of more than 1.8 million ha of forest and marine areas across Western Nghe An BR, Cu Lao Cham – Hoi An BR, and Dong Nai BR. The BR project has directly supported more than 3,100 households, benefiting over 14,700 individuals through capacity-building and sustainable practice training for government officials and community members alike. In Dak Nong Province, the EU-funded iLandscape Project, hosted the "Workshop on Promoting Coffee Industry Compliance with EUDR and Fostering Agri-product Partnerships, Networking, and Trade." This event brought together over 200 delegates, including representatives from international organizations, government ministries, businesses, cooperatives, and farmers from across and beyond the province. The workshop served as a vital platform for advancing sustainable practices within coffee sector and addressing emerging issues including preparation for the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). With the establishment of key commodity forums for coffee, pepper, and durian, the iLandscape Project aims to foster public-private collaboration, improve traceability, and strengthen sustainable farming practices. UNDP Vietnam is proud to be part of this journey toward a deforestation-free agricultural sector that enhances local livelihoods, attracts green finance, and preserves the environment in Vietnam’s Central Highlands.
