Houston has a strong economy and is a region of opportunity, yet 1 in 5 children in the Houston three-county region lives in poverty—a cycle that often continues into adulthood. For our region to continue growing, opportunities must be accessible to all. Increasing economic mobility allows everyone to reach their full potential and builds the skilled workforce critical to Houston’s future. One key indicator to assess economic mobility is absolute income mobility, the fraction of children who earn more than their parents while adjusting for inflation.
