When we started Underdog.io, we would say the best companies should always be hiring. After living through the last few years, I think the phrasing needs improvement, but the sentiment is still right. Good companies should practice proactive hiring, monitoring the landscape for individuals who could significantly impact their business. By surveying the market, you're putting your company in a better position to hire exceptional talent. You have leverage because you know what else is available. You're also less likely to be caught in a situation without a pipeline of qualified people excited about your company.
