Today is International Women’s Day, and we would like to highlight one of our talented female instructors, Cristina Pino. Education: Master’s Degree in Forensic Science from La Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. (Yes, she is Italian??) Qualifications: IAI CCSI ?? and expert in the fields of crime scene examination, latent print comparison, and processing. Work: She began her career in 2012 as a Fingerprint Classifier ?? with the Long Beach Police Department, CA. She is currently a Sr. Forensic Identification Specialist ??♀? with the Forensic Section of the Torrance Police Department, CA. Experience: Cristina’s passion for teaching started in 2006, teaching her mother tongue, Italian, at Purdue University, IN. She later moved to Los Angeles to pursue her passion for forensics, where she interned for several agencies, including the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner – Coroner ??. Cristina taught a Forensic Science Bootcamp at East Los Angeles College and a Fingerprint Analysis course at National University. She is an active member of the IAI, CSDIAI, and SCAFO (Southern California Association of Fingerprint Officers). Outside of work, Cristina is a mom of two Italian boys????. She loves cooking ??? and traveling with her family. It is World Wildlife Day, so we thought it appropriate to discuss the world of wildlife forensics. Wildlife forensics laboratories are capable of identifying species from pieces, parts, and products of an animal and determining the cause of death of an animal. This aids officers in determining if a violation of the law has occurred. Once it is determined that a law has been violated, their analysis of physical evidence helps link suspect, victim, and crime scene.
